Which of these play castles have the most play value?

For my imaginative 3.5 DS.  He doesn't really understand castles/knights/pirates well right now but I know he will grow into it. The first seems like it might be better for a younger child. The second seems like it might appeal to an older child. Which would you pick? We also have a 16m DD and something like 100+ piece playmobil is out of the question.

I'd like something that has the best long term play value and I want it ethically made. Cross-posted to Parenting.

Hum. Just looked at that playmobil castle. Very cool. The reviews on amazon are hilarious, outdoor potty and all. I can see a slightly older boy loving it very much. I'd prefer wooden but I can see the value of open-ended play in all toys.
