i was talking to my MW at homevisit
and she said it it was ok to back out at last
even if i was in labour
through i would ask
if anyone plan homebirth then back out
I've only had one homebirth and I didn't back out, but the labor was so fast it never even came up! My midwife says the main reason women transfer is if they are just exhausted and scared and basically want an epidural. It's important though to know that if you decide on a home birth you can still be open to plans changing at any time.
I think it's comforting for some women to remember that they always have the option. Very few women choose to transfer without reason such as pain relief, a feeling that something may be wrong, etc. It is important to know that transfer is an option. that is what makes homebirth so safe, the ability to seek a higher level of care if it becomes necessary. Personally, I know quite a few women that have chosen homebirth and none of them have trasfered without medical need.
I had the urge to go to the hospital...to escape the pain...But realistically, it was because I was in transition. I couldn't imagine transferring while that far along in labor though unless there was a legit issue. And I know I would kick myself in the arse for giving up. Also, if you already paid your homebirth midwife and decide to transfer, you don't get that $$ back usually.
Wow, smusiak, that's great that you don't have to pay for any of it!! Cute pics, btw.
We're paying our MW as not a penny is covered by insurance. If there is a need for anything medical, it's a big deductible for this calendar year, and, if anything is wrong enough to stay in the hospital into January, it's another huge deductible starting the new calendar year. Sickening, isn't it?
We're planning a happy home birth - wish me luck!
Oh, I just noticed you are in Canada...
My midwife isn't even practicing "legally" so She is out of pocket as well. And she would only be able to accompany me to the hospital as a doula. And I would still have to pay. Hospital and her. So, I will not be backing out unless it is life or death.
