Is it important to you if the kid's beds are made?

Just wondering how many of us with school aged kids and babies at the same time cant manage to have all the beds in the house made every day.

I make mine everyday because I like to get into it at night.

I cant manage to add another step to our getting ready for school routine during the week though.

They would do it, but Im not going to wake them up earlier, or do it for them when they are gone.

We just make it everyday for the bus.

For those btdt- Should I be MAKING this happen?

I feel like with all the school work, homework, stress to fit in quality or playtime- I dont want to ruffle it up with another job for them to do in the morning.

Am I being too laid back about this?

I make mine every morning, but I don't care if dd does.  Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't.  I notice she does if a friend is coming over, so she must be picking up interest.

It is to me, but I don't care when it gets done.  I make mine and ds2's on my lunch break (everyone's still in bed when I leave).  DS1 (he's 8) makes his at some point during the day, usually after school. 

I like getting in a bed that's made.  And I think it looks much nicer to have beds made.  But no one ever sees our beds anyways, so it's just my issue.

If it is important to you and you don't have time in the morning, can it be done after school?

I don't see it as a necessary chore or daily activity. If we are having guests over, I might make the beds look nicer, but I don't care at all about the kid's bed or mine. It's very very low on my list of housework...right now I am having my son help clean up dishes (we eat in other rooms which are far from the kitchen) and clean up the toys in his room as his daily chores. He's 5.

We don't make ours so I doubt I'll have my kids make theirs.

My two have shared a room since they were very little, as we live in a relatively small space. It makes life a lot more pleasant if the beds are made. So, this is what we did:

Bed consists of fitted sheet, down comforter with duvet cover, pillow. No top sheet, no blankets. Bottom sheet and comforter cover are washed every week. Bed making consists of pulling comforter over foot of bed to air while getting dressed, etc. Then pulling up comforter cover and fluffing pillow. Takes about 30 seconds and is well within the capability of a 4 year old, and makes a tremendous difference to the appearance of the bedroom. The kids learned to do it every morning without any problems.

My youngest is a great bed-maker.  He would do everyone's bed!  He's very organized and likes to have his room squared away.  My preteen, not so much.

I ask that the kids have their beds made on the weekends, when time and mornings aren't a big issue.  I will make my preteens bed for her when she doesn't-she loves to come home to her neat bed and cuddle up to read.  When my kids know that someone is having a tough day they will often run and straighten up the bed and bedroom of that person.  I don't remember how that got statred, but it's like a love language we have, and it's lovely.

I care if the beds are made for 2 reasons-

1) We have dogs, and it is a pain in the butt to have to change sheets because they are hairy/muddy.

2) The kids are less likely to find a spider in the crevices of their blanket if the sheet and blanket are at least straightened out.

I'm not asking for military precision you could bounce a quarter on.  I just don't want it all on the floor, and I don't want any drama at bed time.

I'm trying to care, lol.  I don't make my bed, I don't make the kids make theirs currently, but I would like them to get into the habit, I guess just in terms of taking care of their rooms. They do clean their rooms on Saturday including changing sheets, so they do make their beds that day.  I would make them if we were having guests, but otherwise just can't make it a big enough deal to remember to remind them to do it every day ;)

I like mine made and prefer the kids make theirs, but I make it very easy for them. DD(5) has no sheet, just a comforter w/ duvet that is tucked in on one side between mattress and wall, so she doesn't need to do much. DS(7) prefers a sleeping bag which skirts the issue since it doesn't need to be made.

No. Not a hill I want to die on, you know? I like the way their rooms look with the beds made but in the end it's their space.

Anyway, I don't make mine half the time!

Not all nice and neat but I'll lay the blankets right if I walk by a bed that's not made. Takes 2 seconds.

I HAVE to have my bed made. I make it as soon as we get up in the am. It just feels neater and the whole room looks better. Plus that's where I dump the clean laundry to fold.

DD does not have to make her bed unless we're having a playdate. (I don't want the kids playing on her sheets.) It's just not anywhere near the top of the priority list for us.

For mine and dh's bed we just straighten the sheets at night before getting in. For the kids I am just happy if they keep the sheets on the bed and use them. Having beds maid isnt even a blip on my radar.

I do have my kids make their beds in the morning. We homeschool, so it's not like we have to fit it in before we go.

I like mine made, but very rarely do it.  In my defense I've had a baby or toddler in arms as I crawl out of bed every day for the past 3 years 9 months ; )

I would like to get dd in the habit because she likes to play on her bed and the sheets get gross (and gritty) pretty fast if her bed isn't made first.

Definitely not a hill to die on for me, but a goal that is in the back of my mind.  Maybe when ds is 2 or 3...

Nope. Made beds just aren't an issue on my radar.

Yes.  Making beds are as routine as brushing teeth.  Plus, the way that our apartment is set up, DD's "room" is off the living area and open for all to see (sort of a loft-like situation).  She plays in there and has friends over and it becomes a sort of sofa during the day.  Our entire space has to serve several functions throughout a 24 hour period, so we are more attentive to how things are arranged.

I make our beds as ds is only 31 mos. But, it will be something I will want him to do. I am gently encouraging and modeling tidiness. I want my son to understand how to keep his psace tidy and useable. We don't have a lot of room so must maximize what we have. Making your bed is part of the overall philosophy I have about our home and our places in it.
