BG diapers causing friction on chubby legs??

HELP!

I'm not sure what to do.

My ds is 8 months old today and over the last couple of days I've noticed a bit of redness on his thighs.  It seems to be in the area of where the elastic area touches his legs....it's on the inside of his thighs only and it is redder some days and less so others.  Up to this point he has NO diaper rash or irritation in the diaper area whatsoever. He does have chubbier legs than most (He's about 23 lbs at 8 mos!) so I'm wondering if BG are known to be tighter??? I hate to give them up as I absolutely love how they work!!!!  I also never use any cream or ointments and wouldn't even know what natural product to use with the BG's......     Any thoughts???

My son was always in the 90+ percentile for weight and his bumgenius seemed really small around that age as well.  However, as he got older, he started sliming out and they started fitting better. They will likely start fitting better as he gets older and his thighs aren't as chunky.  You can experiment with putting them on a little differently.  Higher up in the crease of his thighs, or maybe on a little looser.  If possible, I'd just try to stick with it (or if needed switch to cheap prefolds for awhile).

Hi:

Do you strip your diapers on a regular basis?  If there is buildup in that area and it's rubbing against the skin that could be causing the irritation.  You should strip them every month.  Use a drop or two of original Dawn in the wash and nothing else....it pulls the buildup out of the diapers.  Run the wash a few more times with hot water and no other additives until you see no suds at all in the wash water.  The other alternative is to use a product called RLR.  It does the same thing but Dawn is sometimes easier to find.  I belong to a coop that sells it so I'm well-stocked.

Please only use original Dawn if you use it to strip.  The other versions aren't as effective at all.

Thanks!  I had not had any problems with the diapers so far so I had not thought of striping them!  Good idea!  And thanks to you too dejagerw,  I was hoping it would be a temporary thing....now that he's crawling he should lose some of that....that's what my first son did too....
