Clay- Maybe you could ask for a temporary hold on the preschool? I know winter can last forever but maybe just a brief break to allow you guys to feel less stretched in the money dept? This would also give you a brief driving break.

As for all the driving- if it were me, I would be a ball of mush after that much driving each week. While I don't get anxious driving, i hate being away from the house that much.I don't have any great ideas, but the above, which might not be possible.

DOK- How are you hon?

Aweyn- Loving your decorations my dear!

I finally got around to putting my mother Mary, and the shepards on my altar, along with a St.Nic figure. I love the image of the Mom surrounded by animals.

I'm ok. Thanks for asking. Keeping busy.  Too busy. Annoyed w/Roo's school.  Ok, it's more than annoyed.

Also feeling bad about Roo's upcoming birthday.

Other than that, I'm ok.

It's just barely 12 degrees outside right now!  Ack!  I'm repeating my desperation compromise of yesterday..;. Ro and Tor are sitting in front of the fire playing with bowls of snow.  LOL  It makes a gods aweful mess as it melts but it means no frostbite for them and no massive bundling up for all of us so yay!  I can drink coffee and read MDC and /not/ go outside.  I love autumn, and "sweater weather", but actual snow on the ground sub-zero winter?  Not so much!

FE- if you live near a Wegmans grocery store, they sell the whole line of flower essences in the "nature's harvest" section.  Along with bottles and things to mix your own.  Oh, the reason I hesitate before seeing the dr is that back in college our whole group of friends got sick, eventually went to the campus clinic, and everyone was given meds because we all had strep.  However, one of us was really into herbal remedies and although the teas weren't strong enough to kick the strep, they were strong enough to reduce the symptoms.  Even though she needed the meds, she had to fight for them since she just wasn't presenting "as sick" as the rest of us.  It was annoying and counterproductive and ever since then I've been hesitant to start anything new right before I see a dr.

My dr visit is tomorrow... wish me luck!  And maybe a minor miracle or two.  This family practice is great, great enough to pay out of pocket for the kiddos, but it's been 5 years since they've seen "me" as a patient (they did my prenatal care with dd1) and while I did have a nurse visit for thrush last month that's the only recent record they have on me.  Hopefully we'll be able to strike a good balance between "I need help" and "I'm not overreacting".  :)

Cari- yea gods, that's a lot for uniforms!  Do they offer some sort of scholarship?  The thought of a uniform cap though is just cute!  And a matching bag?  Spiffy is right!

Driving- I know, it's disgusting.  And it costs about 80 dollars a week in gas.  :(  Not to mention I have multiple panic attacks and constant anxiety each day that I drive.  Today DH took dd1 in to preschool, I'll pick her up in the afternoon.  But we're seriously buying gas with the coins from under the seat cushions so who knows how this will go?  I'm not sure we can break the preschool contract (and given how much dd1 enjoys going, maybe that's a good thing?)... we could keep her home but we'd still have to pay the tuition.  I dunno... I really dislike being outside in the winter (armchair pagan!) and she loves it.  It's not safe for littles alone outside here (dog attacks, hunters, etc) so while she gets an hour or more of outside play each day at preschool she'd be inside all day here... and it's a tiny house.  Ah well, if we can't find enough coins we can't get there anyway...

LOL  Must think happy thoughts!  LOL  I came up with an awesome holiday gift for everyone... fabric bags!  Made from scrap fabric I've already got, an easy peasey quickie pattern.  And what makes it rock?  Personalized stitching on the outside.  Like, my SIL wants to hit the wine trail during the holidays.  So I used scraps of blue felt to make the lakes and a straight stitch to "draw" the wine trail.  I put a few beads along the trail to mark wineries.  Stuffed it with free wine trail brochures and a dollar bin notepad/pen for wine tasting notes and sha-zam!  A neat and useful gift that didn't require spending the gas money.  And dh is getting a similar bag, but I stitched a cog design and some chemical symbols and whatnot to make it steampunky.  And my MIL and AuntIL are getting "book" bags with stitched quotations, my newly veg*n SIL is getting an "eat gentle" bag, and so on.  W00t!  Creative score!

LOL

another cool advent idea!  http://www.livinginseason.com/at-home/an-advent-garden/

(she's got a few new posts on her blog, so you might want to check them out... including a yummy-looking lemon chicken soup recipe)

i'm on the verge of getting sick...  icky sore throat.  i'm hoping everything (or maybe just one thing!) i shoved into my system this morning will kick it away...

clay, smart plan-- dont soothe those symptoms, make it easier to sus them out! ;-) (fwiw, i never suggested starting before apt, i originally offered it as a suggestion as something to do if you decided to not do the doc right now.) hope the apt goes well!

bluets, i've been twinging too, but i think mine's mental, lol. the tapping guy had an amazing script on personal wisdom and then one on migraines, and i'm on the verge of a revelation, lol.... but i need time alone, and boygosh that's hard to come by this time of the year. :lol dh had one of those heartwarming concerts last night that just make me glow all over that he's doing what he's doing. *sigh*

i so need to go sit in the sun today. i actually got some vit d drops (ahem, in addition to my flowers) because i'm feeling SAD-y even though i live in the land of the sun! lol trying to figure out how to move us all out on the porch for the day. it's just too cold inside. <shiver>

sending warm vibes to all, and "happy weekend wishes" a day early as well!

xoxoxo

Clay, you are the creative-est, you are! I found this humongous lavender plant at the elementary school up the street, so while it was in high bloom, I "shared" a whole bunch of it. I made tiny lavender sleep bags for a couple of people and am giving those with a small bottle of lavender for when they need "recharging". Oh, and I found a recipe for bath salts/scrubs and scored some baby food jars from Freecycle. DS and I are going to make those for gifts, too. That's it for my creativity.

Dr. visits-- good luck with yours. My dang dental surgery has to be rescheduled. They called me today. It was supposed to be tomorrow irked.gif Not that I'm looking forward to it at all, but I did want to get it over with, and a good while before the holidays. Now they might <might> be able to fit me in on Monday afternoon-- which, not only will I have to bring ds with me, who'd have to stay in the waiting room alone the whole hour or so, but it's also M's birthday. Sigh.

Oh and Clay? It's 15* here. In western NC. So don't feel too bad, mama lol.gif  At least it's proper weather for NYS!

Afternoon:)

That wreath is beautiful!!  I love it.

I have so much catching up to do.  I took a few days off and just hung around the place in my pj's.  It has been wonderful.  I turned 45 a few days ago, not as horrible as I thought:)  This is my year ladies!!  Things are going to turn around I am positive!

I hope everyone is doing well.

Off to try to catch up.

happy birthday redveg :)

Bolding mine

Sigh...I can't wait til I'm 40.  I feel it shifting and starting to grow, but kind of like an incoming tooth...it hasn't "broken through" yet.  I.can't.wait.

Redveg- I hope you had a very nice birthday. flowersforyou.gif   I'm glad you got some PJ time.

Happy Birthday Redveg!~ 45 is a great age!

Happy Birthday, redveg!

Clay, hope you are having a productive, effective dr visit.  I love your ideas.  Are you embroidering the bags by hand, then?  I thought maybe machine-embroidery? That would take me a lot of work, done by hand.

bluets - did I say thanks for your gf fruitcake suggestions?  To me, fruitcake isn't something one makes oneself, it is something that one's great-aunt or grandmother makes from an old family recipe and and that one enjoys as a gift.  I've never baked a fruitcake.  It was kind of liberating to me to realize I could use the dried fruit of my choice - I don't have to include those icky looking green cherries from safeway, and I can use the dried apples and grapes and cherries I've made or purchased specially.  That is more inspiring.

Thanks all, especially aweyn, for the dried -orange inspiration.  We will dry some and put them up on the solstice.  I have white sparkly lights strung around my dim living room from November through to early spring - maybe I'll hang the orange slices from the string of lights.

Hum.  The Hermione action figure just jumped off the bookcase and landed on the couch across from me, for no apparent reason.  It *must* be a sign.  She's telling me that the answer is in Hogwarts: A History?

Thinking about my Word of the Year for 2010 - "light".  We are definitely lighter around here - have decluttered a lot, focusing our attention on living simpler, have shed dh's old job (a heavy burden in a lot of ways).  Starting to think about a word for 2011 already, now.  Also, doing a lot of thinking about resolutions, what I want to bring into my life to replace what has gone/is going out of it.  And, not least, prosperity thinking. Dh just left his old job a few weeks earlier than he'd planned to, for good reasons, but there is going to be a lean couple months until he hits his stride at his new job - much more aligned with what he believes in/needs. And less travel, though maybe a move.  My TM for last year has the words "home every night in 2011" and I think that is going to be true now!   I've pulled out Penzack's Witch's Coin and have actually been *doing* the prosperity spells and exercises in the last chapters of the book(with some health stuff thrown in for good measure.)

happy belated birthday, hon!

(one can, i do believe, induce early growth of the bone in question with the use of flowers. you know i had to say it. lol)

aubergine, welcome back, hon. hope you're healing well! LOVE that you have a hermione action figure. wouldnt you just LOVE if we could read hogwarts: a history? i love the idea of stringing the oranges with the lights! i have twinklylights in my fire place, as we wont light a fire, lol..... but i might string some up in the dining room with more oranges.... must go get another bag of local oranges... and plant me an orange tree!

i also really want this new rose:

e6008.jpg

i dont remember what my word for 2010 was..............

so, i'm telling you all this so you can remind me of it in august and september next year..... i adore swimming in the sun in december. just adore it. bookmark that, set an alarm, something. because when it's been 115* for three months straight, i'll start whining again............ and i'll need to be reminded.......

and, now i'll tell you this, so you can laugh: this weekend we're going to go to a local outdoor mall where they make it "snow." it's like really fine bubbles, and they blow it off the roof and the kids can frolic in the "snow".... then we'll probably go get gelato, lol. ahh, well.

Happy birthday!

embroidery- by hand, but it's not hard.  So... for my SIL... the wine trail goes around a series of lakes.  So I cut out blue felt scraps in the rough shape of the lakes and did a rustic (read "fast") stitch around the edge to hold the lake in place.  Then I "drew" the trail around the lake using a straight stitch... think something like ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.  At the location of each winery (16 on the trail she has mentioned) I put a tiny seed bead.  And there it is.  LOL  I'll take a pic when it's done.  Right now it's messy/half done and I'm focused on getting the stockings done first.

Same deal with the other bags... straight stitch to make things like theobromine or estrogen or schematics or cogs.

LOL  Must think happy

Good luck with your appt Clay!   Yeah it is a lot for uniforms ;S  and no, no scholarships.. this is a public school winky.gif  and it's the schools first year in operation so they don't even have a 2nd hand uniform shop running (obviously lol)    Ah well, we'll scrape it up somehow!

Re: your driving issues... I take it your insurance (can't remember what kind you have) doesn't cover therapies .. like cognitive etc?  I think that would be so helpful in your situation.

Aweyn..  it IS really  nice to be able to go for a swim on christmas day isn't it hehehe.    The snowing mall sounds very amusing!

I am still not feeling great in the guts, so I think it'll be a home day despite being sunny and NICE out for the first time in a couple of WEEKS.   I have to call my former supervisor (from about 5yrs ago) and see if she will give SOME kind of a reference for this potential new job.  If she doesn't remember me, which she may well not, and isn't comfortable or willing to give a reference based on my personell file then I will be sh*t out of luck as they say greensad.gif

HOwever unlikely it may be, I'm *still* hoping that when we move I can find an owner who will let me do family day care at home... it would make life so much easier as far as dealing with school transport and other stuff!

Happy Belated Birthday!!!  Glad you got a chance to relax.

I need some ideas. DD is screaming in gas pain in her sleep. Sometime it wakes her, sometimes she only wakes when I try and move or comfort her.  It seems to start about 7 pm.  We've been trying Hyland's teething tabs, colic tabs, Boiron Cocyntal, homeopathic Lycopodium, Simethicone (Mylicon) gas drops.  I've cut back on or elininated from her diet the beans and broccoli. I'm being much moire careful about my dairy intake (she's allergic).  It's better - but the screaming every hour 7pm-3am is horrible.  Any ideas or advice?

clay: i was wondering if you can talk to the school about putting your contract on hold until spring for your dd. maybe you can say it is a hard ship (which it is) plus the driving conditions aren't great. just an idea.

so the weather here is whacky! 80's this weekend! then it drops to 70 during next week. lol fingers crossed it will be in the 60's by yule so it will be at least coolish outside and we might feel like having a fire just for atmosphere.

i think we have decided on names for the baby. although i am still not 100% sure. i am really sorta done with the uncomfortableness that i am having, but i am so not ready to actually have a baby yet. lol

liza-s: how old is your dd?

redveg: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!

ok must try and get some sleep. i have almost given up on that. lol

I made my first one this year. It was round (as in bundt shaped). I cut it up into slices, froze them, and am going to give out slices to people for Yule. The whole cake was 5-1/2 pounds!! I found the recipe online; it was from 1961. Google "vintage" fruitcake recipe, or some such. I don't care about the green cherries-- they are gross, true, but I wonder what people used before artificial colors eyesroll.gif

DS had horrible, horrible colic. One of the things I did (besides everything you're already doing) is massage his belly, in the direction of his colon. You have to kind of do it in rhythm with her breathing. When she breathes out, then push, otherwise she'll be in excruciating pain, because her belly will be less relaxed if she's not exhaling.

Also I would push his legs up, like knees to belly, and rotate them in a clockwise (colon-wise) direction. Sometimes it would push farts out-- endless amusement for my then-10yo-stepDD.

Sorry you're going through this. I know just how much it sucks. I remember the day I found out even lettuce might be gas-producing-- I broke down and just cried. Thankfully, time heals it-- it was three and a half months of daily, utter many-hours-hell. But it got gone. And we both lived.

that's rough on everyone :(

if you've got it, try homeopathic Natrum muriaticum (though i'm not sure if that's the simillimum)

have you tried warm or cold compresses?  on her belly?  on her back?

does she pass any gas?  is it better when she does?

how is her belly?  soft or hard?  bloated?  enlarged? is it hot to the touch?

is it better if you take her outside or to a cooler room?  (if you try this, I'd do it at 8pm, not at 3am - for your sake)

you're already gluten-free, right?
