Story to introduce Santa?

My daughter is just turning 3 and is starting to ask (or really tell me) about Santa.  Other adults are asking her what Santa might bring, etc.  I'd really like to find a nice story to introduce her to Santa in a way that it won't be all about the gift getting.  I realize that he is based on St. Nicholas, but I am wondering if there are any creative stories out there that might help introduce Santa different (since we will probably celebrate St. Nicholas when she is older and in school).

We actually use "Elf on the Shelf" ....kind of takes the creepiness out of a stalking/peeping tom santa.

We just bought the Polar Express and I love it-- it doesn't explain the "nuts and bolts" of Santa, but the illustrations are beautiful, and I love that it introduces the concept of doubt (the main character is listening for sleigh bells that his friend told him he wouldn't hear b/c Santa doesn't exist)--some people are believers all their lives and some are doubters early on...kind of leaves the door open for children to make their own choices about what to believe...
