Wii, xbox or PS3- Xposted - Page 2

Well we just got an Xbox 360 Kinect system yesterday. It is dh's bday/xmas gift. It came with one game and that's all we have for now. lol  It is a motion game. My five year old picked it up immediately! It is rafting and your body moves the boat on the screen. He was rafting like a champ yesterday and by bedtime he was worn out. Slept in this morning latest he has in a long time.

This is the first time we have introduced a gaming system to the kids. It's really for dh though and I have no intention of getting a lot of games for the kids....at least I don't think so. However after watching my child jump and move last night and get worn out, I'm not so sure this won't be a great winter time activity!

Anyhow, I'm already impressed with the Xbox 360 Kinect and we've only had it for one day and one game!

The Wii is probably best for kids that age--the game titles are geared more towards kids, and the games are less expensive, in general.  All 3 systems stream Netflix now (not sure if you would use that).  The PS3 is a blu-ray player, which is a nice feature, but probably not a decision-maker.  Also, the price of the Wii is definitely lower than a PS3 (and I think it's lower than XBox, too, but I'm not sure what those cost).

I was the gamer in the family then we had kids and my time is more limited.  Though I have never, not, been able to find any game I was looking for, nor do I miss the newest Playstation or Xbox.  Honestly I have been keeping my eye on the new xbox kinect but am not willing to go for it for a number of reasons.  It is brand new, we already have a Wii, and the games specific to the Wii are so family oriented and fun and we use it daily.  I know the kinect will try and challenge the Wii, there is always something newer and better coming out.  I expect in a few years we will think about getting a new system, but not yet.  I have a friend getting her family a Wii for Christmas.  They are not gamers in any way.  This will be her first experience in video games.  She and I talked about it and the big thing with the Wii is that it is a known entity and already has all the games and has better prices.

We have had a Wii for a couple of years now and the kids love it.  My boys are now 5 & 8.  My kids prefer all the Lego games, Wii Sport, Wii Resort, Wii SKi, Wii Fit, Toy Story Mania.  They like watching me play Ocean Blue.  I really like that most of the games like Wii Sport & Resort allow all of us to play together.  We once had a bowling match with 6 of us from ages 3 to 85 and had a ball orngbiggrin.gif

My son loves Wii.  Personally, I'd like the new xbox because I hate the idea of remotes.  I'm so afraid the remote is going to go flying into the tv one of these days.

The Kinect works on all the Xbox 360s.  It comes either as a bundle or separately if you already have an xbox. (Just in case people thought it was a whole new xbox)

There is always a risk of the remote being thrown into the TV, but I don't think its a very big one.  The remote does come with a strap you can wrap around your wrist while playing in case your hands get sweaty or you get over-excited.  I think the only games that really come with a risk of flying remotes are the sports games.  Other games don't necessarily require more range of motion than any other system.

Edit:  Sorry, I just noticed you have a wii, so it's not like you didn't know this already. Now I can't delete this though. redface.gif
