Flu vax - how many doses would one need?

I am confused....if you have never gotten the h1n1 vax, then you need 2 doses if you are under age 9?  DS is 7 and has had a flu shot before, but not last year (no seasonal or h1n1), how many doses would he need?  If I chose to get one dose for him or my 5 yr old, would it be effective at all?  Looking for data on the effectiveness of 1 flu shot for kids who have never had one before.

Thanks.

Our family doctor said if you've had any flu shot before, then you just need one dose, even with the H1N1 this year. My kids are under 9.

There's a chart on this page: http://www.flu.gov/individualfamily/vaccination/index.html

from the CDC that shows 1 dose only if kids have had any seasonal flu vax before.

From what our family doc told me I only need one, D needs 2 30 days apart (he's 1 yr old)..  Not sure why this is, but I don't mess with the flu.  I ended up in the hospital with flu complications 5 years ago because I thought "healthy people can fight the flu".  Well, usually they can, but sometimes it kicks your butt.  It can be a very nasty and dangerous, unpredicatable disease.
