Talk to me about sulfite allergy...

A friend posted a link to food additives to avoid on Facebook. In the list was Sulfites. Apparently, they're in red wine (I did not know that) and one of the symptoms of a reaction is shortness of breath.

This happens to me when I drink red wine. I always thought it was some kind of reaction to the alcohol or something (slowing things down?) but now I'm not so sure...

Is there a way to "test" if I have an allergy? I found a list of things high in sulfites and we don't eat/drink them THAT often (so they aren't in the house) The only thing I KNOW I react to is red wine.

Help me with this mystery?

I'm sure a doctor could do an allergy test for you.

From what I've found a skin test or whatever isn't definitive...I think it's all symptoms.

And, with my healthcare, it would take at least a month (if not more) to see my PCP to get my referral...and then we're talking months to see an allergist.
