Is progesterone the only cure for my headaches?? Please read.

Hello everyone, I hope someone will be able to help me sort this out or maybe give me some insight or BTDT.

I've always suffered from migraines.  Really bad ones.  I've had CT scans and MRIs in the past and none showed anything.  They started when I hit puberty,  My headaches were always really bad before I ovulated, and better during my luteal phase, only to come roaring back at me once I got my period (and I always had very heavy bleeding and horrible cramping to go along with that- not fun when you start having your period at 10yo!).  It has continued this way for the past 10 years.  When I got pregnant with my DD1, poof, no headaches.  I could function again.  The same thing happened when I had DD2.  I'm breastfeeding and haven't ovulated or had a ppaf yet, but I do have headaches alot more than I'd like to, and they're a bit sporadic (not a pattern like I used to have them) and I assume they go hand in hand with my fluctuating hormones.

Has anyone had something similar happen to them?  Anyone able to point me in the right direction as far as where to go to get more info?  My doctor was incredibly unhelpful and threw a rx for naproxen at me and told me to come back when I'm not breastfeeding :( basically.

I have had a horrible headache all day and have been laying in bed with the kids up until now.

I take naratriptan for my migraines. It's just when I have one, not something I take every day. I don't know if it's ok when you are nursing, though.

Thanks.  I really would like to stay away from meds though :(

I was on medication (neurontin) for migraines when I was 11, but it didn't work and my mom weaned me off of it because she didn't want me to get hooked on it, and there was evidence that it was making people who took it develop suicidal tendencies.

I just don't know how much longer I can stand to keep having headaches everyday.  I feel like enough is enough. :(

Hi WindyCityMom!

I also suffer from debilitating migraines that can last for days and days and days. It's awful and really does make you feel totally hopeless . . . .

When I started TTC I had to go off all meds, and ended up seeing a chiropractor. The difference was amazing, within two months I was almost completely headache free, ad the headaches i did have were mild and manageable. Not sure what your insurance situation is, but with a doc's referral (or sometimes without) most major insurance companies will cover a chiro. Medicaid also covers chiros in some states, but I'm not sure of which ones.

Hope you're feeling better today. . . .

Thanks for the info :) I'm on Medicaid, but I don't think they cover chiros.  It would be awesome if they did!  I'd have to look into it.

Do you eat grains and grain products? Many people have success with completely ending migraines, normalising cycles and returned (or first time) fertility even, losing excess water-weight, end of asthma and other respiratory ailments, and myriad other weird idiopathic symptoms like rashes, bumps, deposits, infections, etc... just from eliminating grain foods from their diets. If you do a search, you'll come up with lots of stories.

Read The Primal Blueprint if you're interested, or visit the author's blog. Visit the Weston A Price Foundation site, but heed the PB advice about grains if they could be bothering you. Many people do not show up an allergy, but are indeed intolerant, and can only verify this by first eliminating grains and then later eating a small quantity. Oftentimes their reaction is obvious at that point. If you do eat grains, your gut will need healing. When your gut is unwell, everything is unwell, including everything related to hormones.

Whatever it takes, I hope you find the solution. I have suffered with debilitating migraines since puberty, with a terrible cycle too, and a host of ailments in spite of eating traditional foods. For me, the grain undoes all the good. I am grain-free now, and only recently, but already- no migraines, even while presently going through one of the most stressful times in my whole life. Under less stressful circumstances, I would be blinded and ill with a migraine right now, but not only am I very calm, despite the stress, I also don't have a migraine or any of the precursor symptoms!

Thank you for the reply!  I have gone grain free in the past (and ate TF as well!) and it did squat in terms of the migraines.  I did feel better overall though :)  I will probably look into it again.  When I eliminated grains (before pregnancy with DD2), and then started eating them again, I didn't notice any issues when I started again.  My diet right now is a bit lousy so I'm trying to pick that up.  I hope it does something, this is getting very frustrating.

Oh, and I wanted to offer up some positive vibes! I hope everything gets better for you!
