Mums of Many It's December!

Ho ho ho Ladies!  Of course, I posted in the Nov thread and then remembered it's December today- I always do that!  So I'm pasting it here too-

Firsts are the hardest usually, aren't they?

I've been reading Dr Kevin Leman's books on parenting and I really do like them.  I'm taking notes.  Honestly, I feel freed by the constant reminders from him that I don't have to ask things more than once or react to bad behavior (esp with older kids) but that the next time they ask for something (he says "I don't care if it's toilet paper") the answer is a simple "no."  I'm enjoying the moment when I get to say the no, satisfied that I didn't yell or get angry.  I actually feel like my parenting in the past couple of weeks has been much improved and I'm feeling hopeful.

Kat, I had a best friend with four kids who was single for a while, and I was truthfully thinking how she could move in with us and be a second wife : )  I would LOVE to hire some help- housecleaning, a mother's helper, anything!- but we can't afford it.  Sorry to hear you have a needy baby, that's hard with so much to do.

The mess and noise of the big family are the hardest parts for me.  Four coats on the floor, four kids tracking in mud, etc...

I just posted there, too. I came looking for a new thread.

Oh gosh, it's december. It's even the 3rd.

Which means that I will probably be having a baby NEXT month. If he stays in that long (been hospitalized for 3 weeks with threatening preemie birth, but we hope he waits longer). Yeah, not until the end of next month, but still, it's next month. Wow.

It must feel good to get through to December. Here's to another month.

Pixie, good luck!!  So exciting that your little one will be here soon :)

Jenny, what's the name of the book you're reading?  I'm having a hard time with my 9yo, but I'm not into a lot of discipline methods suggested here.  That books sounds like something that might work for us, though.

My little man will be two months old next week!  Goes so fast.  He's getting less fussy, which is nice.  Still the fussiest baby I've had!  Love him, but my last was such a super easy baby, I wasn't prepared for a high needs kiddo!

Does anyone else get Above Rubies?  I love it, this issue I got yesterday had a piece from a mom who's had 9 c-sections (10 kids, last pregnancy was twins).  I was so glad to get it, it helped me not feel so down and nervous about having my third c/s with baby #4.  (Also had some great pieces on high needs babies!)

Pixie- no offense but I hope I go before you! lol It's nice to have another MoM in the same DDC. I'm feeling like 1/11/11 is a good day- safe for lo to come any time after and have our homebirth! So close just gotta make it thru the holidays. Hope you and yours are doing well w/you in the hospital. That has to be hard on all of you. Hugs.

Thank you, mamas!
It's starting to dawn on me that we'll have a baby soon. Like when I look at his tiny clothes and stuff.

But aren't you due after me?

My doctor has already told me we'll probably get him out (induce) last week of jan., he'll be fullborn then anyway. You have a little longer to go before fullborn don't you, so I hope I beat you. :p

Thank you! I'm home atm. though! "On probation", lol. I go to the hospital every week, and as long as nothing changes in my test results or anything else I'm allowed to stay home for now. I hope it'll last until january at least. It was no fun being stuck in there though, so boring, and seeing the kids so little sucked big time. I'm still not allowed to do much but take it easy, so I can't be a proper mum yet. SO is fantastic and does everything.

Can I join you guys?  Purty please?

I'm Jill.  We currently have three girls of our own and two foster kidlets, and are trying for our fourth (pleaseohplease be a BOY!)---I guess just see my sig lol

I LOVE my chaotic life with five under five (and four under three) and wanna add MORE!  We will most likely be done having our own after this next one because of ttc/preterm issues, but I'd love to add one more foster kiddo some day!  (if they'll allow it lol, we're bursting out of our 4bdrm after the next one!)

Hi!

Oh, gosh, I don't know why I'm suddenly blind, or thinking of someone else. Pregnancy-brain.

But ok, then you're due before me, yeah! We'll see who "wins the race". Lol!

And you're having a tiebreaker as well, btw, heh.

Ohh...looking forward to hearing all the wonderful baby news next month then!

I am doing a great job of cleaning out the house today. End of the year always hits me harder than spring cleaning. I want to start perfect...as if I could ever attain that. I know I can't but I still try to get close, and this is the best year yet.

We put up a Christmas tree this year and it looks like the kids decorated it. They did. Ornaments in clumps, none on the bottom because of wee hands. Several have gone the way of trash already and we just put it out Tuesday. It's been fun lol!

Does anyone have snow? I miss snowy Decembers, but do enjoy the weather here.

We have lots of snow, here on the iceberg.

We also have -8 to -12 C's every day.

I'm nesting, getting the odds and ends we need for the baby and such. Mostly through the intra webz since I have to take it easy.

Snow here too! Temps in the teens and 20s F.

6 years ago today my water broke (the only time) at 34 wks pg. and I spent the next 2 days in the hospital on Pit and IV ABXs trying to get labor going. 2 days from now I'll have a 12 yr old and a 6 yr- they share a birthday! If you knew my son (the 6 yr old) you'd know he planned to take over his sister's birthday! lol

To Katie/CherryBomb-

I'm simultaneously reading three books by Dr Kevin Leman, and I have enjoyed them all.  Mainly I'm feeling freed from some bad habits as he writes that I don't have to react in the heat of the moment!  The discipline/consequence comes later usually, in the form of saying no to something they want.  The way I respond to sibling bickering and such has changed for the better, and I'm using MUCH MUCH less words (lecturing, complaining, sharing my feelings) and doing much more action (removing people from the room, walking away).  Also coming to terms with how I parent and how I don't want to bark orders at my kids but need to show them more love, compassion, forgiveness while teaching them to be responsible.  I don't know if I am summing it up well, but I'm glad to have read them and assume I'll be rereading them over again and again while I'm getting the hang of this.  It feels good so far.

Oh, and he raised five kids and is a grandfather now.
