Hi Dingos!
Â
I've been missing you, and trying to catch up on everything between Thanksgiving and now (hopeless), so I'll just jump in and start here.
Â
DrJen, I did read your the story of your patient's birth. And I searched up and down through the smileys to find the one wiping away a happy tear, because that's just how I felt reading it! But couldn't find the smiley. You know what I mean. You are a fantastic doctor!
Â
JG: I just wanted to add my best wishes for a good outcome! It sounds scary. I hope that all the stress and uncertainty is soon cleared up, and that your dad is feeling better soon, too. Whew, that's a lot of surgery on the heart. It's amazing what they do these days.
Â
Gaye: congrats on finishing your first rotation! I can't imagine how you keep so many balls in the air at the same time - you are like wonder woman in that respect. How's DS doing now? The last I read, he was very clingy with you because of the transition, new sitter, etc.
Â
Jen, did you find a house yet? Congratulations on selling yours!
Â
Sparkle, that sounds so exciting!! And fantastic that your DH is so supportive. That's awesome.
Â
Nick, I hope you find a doctor who has the time and understanding to listen to your specific case. Frustrating, for sure. And wow, you are running so well, so much, so fast these days! I love hearing about it.
Â
I love-love-love my dingo shirt, too!! I wore it for a run (c25k) the very day I got it! Love it. (Need a smiley here. Not going to take the time to find one though!)
Â
I visited my ortho on my birthday. It was my last appointment, 3 months post surgery. He was a bit reserved, as in, not enthusiastic about my running. I told him that I have some swelling after running and he said "that doesn't surprise me." He asked whether I had been doing any cutting sports - tennis, soccer - and I told him no. I wonder now, in retrospect, whether he felt looseness or something in my knee, which led him to believe that the reconstruction had failed? I am tempted to call him to clear that up and just confirm that he felt that the replacement ACL was still good in there. He tested the knee and didn't say anything. The only other discussion that we had was his belief that I will not be running in 15 years, so it would be good for me to cultivate different sports (swimming, biking) starting now. All in all, it was a sobering visit.
Â
But on an up note, my DH got me a new bike for my birthday! Yay! It is a Schwinn frame, but very light. The tires are skinny, like a road bike, but the handlebars straight like a mountain bike. It feels different from my other bike that I rode all last year. This one feels like I am right up over the front tire almost. It has zero shock absorption, though, maybe that's the skinny tires. I took it right out to ride over the bridge into Charleston on the first day! How exciting that was!
Â
Ok, one smiley for you guys:

Melissa - Triathlons! But, I'm hoping the doctor was just overly pessimistic, like it seems a lot of doctors are.Â
Â
Tri class was difficult. It was a strength workout in 4 stations. Each station had 5 exercises to do, and we had to do them for 1 minute each. There was a cardio station that was running around the indoor track. 1 lap easy, 1 medium, 1 hard, and repeat for 5 minutes. The entire thing was just tough! I'm sore today, but, I'm in running clothes, and intend to get out for 3 miles!

Mel ~ I'm not saying you will be running in 15 years, but I am still running 14 years post ACL reconstruction and menisectomy. Yes, I have degenerative joint disease, but I will keep running 'til I can run no more!
Â
Just talked with my Mom and Dad is getting better. He slept poorly last night due to pain from all the tubes, but his chest tube and blood gas tube are coming out today, so after that he should rest better. I am amazed at what modern medicine can do!
Â
Happy Hannukah, Nic!!!!
Â
Off to pick up the remaining medical records and unload the rest of the storage unit. Fun, fun, fun.
Mel, I hope the doc is wrong, but some alternate sports might also keep you running longer.
Â
You know, I had a mtg yesterday and was kinda dreading it because I was having a sort-of standoff with (of all people) my supervisor over pretty core philosophical stuff...anyway, I let it all go in advance of the mtg, putting it all in the same bucket as power struggles. Power is a currency in which I refuse to trade. So I went in and put on my patience and sat through the talk with supervisor and added all his "insights," and then in our larger meeting (with the boss of us all), all my concerns and thoughts and POV were totally vindicated, and forward I go with the project, unencumbered by mediocrity. It's exhausting and schizophrenic.
Â
Going through the pre-dh-travel roller coaster at home, too. Blech. I am looking forward to working out daily and hard for the two weeks that he's on the road, and not having to cook all his high-carb winter comfort foods. Two weeks of soup!
Â
I took a rest day yesterday. Could have used a workout before work, but didn't have time. Going in this morning, though, and hoping to meet my sister at the Y tomorrow. We usually chat as we jog the track.

and
FMR 6 miles in the books for today. Without the jogger running is such a stress relief and a joy. With the jogger I get my workout done and that feels good but the stress doesn't get relieved. This means dh is more than willing to stick around long enough for me to get a few miles in.

I'll be back for personals later.

Good morning all!
Â
Wow, it's pretty cold and windy here today. Did 3 outside this morning but the wind was really difficult to run through, so I'm going to try and hit the 'mill later at the Y for my second 3 while the girls have swimming lessons. If not I guess I'm running tomorrow which is my official rest day.
Â
Thanks for the Chanukah wishes!
Â
DrJ, can you add the following to the race list for me?
Â
Jan 22 Ringling Bridge 5 Mile Run
Feb 19 Scrub J 10K
Mar 13 Sarasota Half Marathon
Â
Thanks!

Morning mamas,
Â
I am in the depths of post event blahs. And I think I may have slightly injured my hamstring either on my ill-fated 5 miler last Monday or in the <10 minute circuit workout I did on Sunday. Wah wah wah! I'm really dreading the Fat Ass, I'm an ass for not having begun training for it months ago but then I was both sick and crazy busy. Wah wah!Â
Anyway, sorry to pop in just to moan.Â
JG - Glad to hear your dad seems to be doing well. :fingersx for your follow-ups to be all good.
Â
I could use some prayers and good thoughts coming at my friend who was my music director. He'd been having chest pains (that he ignored) all through the rehearsal process and finally followed up the other day, had a big scare about his heart, that turned out to be fine but now the dr thinks there may be lesions on his lungs. He's had cancer in the past so he's pretty worried that it could be making a reappearance. Makes all my whining seem even lamer.
Â
ST (and JG!)- I think you should follow your path, whoever said you were going to be whatever age regardless of what you're doing when you get there was right! Think how fast the first 5-8 years of our kids lives go by, it's like nothing.
Â
Alrighty, I really need to go clean clean clean.
xxoo to everyone!
