Dingos Dashing Through the Snow ~ December Running Mamas Thread - Page 27

Sugar and Sun, depending on where you live, the Vermont City Marathon (usually run the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend) is a great one. It's a nice size (not too big, not too small), in a beautiful location (in Burlington, VT and run on the shoreline of Lake Champlain), well supported, and has a great vibe. That was my first marathon and I was quite happy to do that one. Also the course is sort of a clover-leaf setup so spectators can stay in more or less the same spot and you'll pass them several times. That was great for my dh.

Welcome back!

Waaaaaa! I'm an idiot...I missed the dingo meetup.  For some reason I thought the 28th was wednesday.  I even printed out directions and everything this morning so that I'd be good to go.  I am sooooo disappointed. :(  I'm sorry I stood you up Wendy, Kristin, Callie. :(

I'm sorry guys for the lack of personals,

but I think I'm going to puke.  It has really hit me what I'm about to do and I actually feel sick with anxiety.  I know I did a 12 followed by a 23 a week and a half ago.  I want to believe I can do this.  But now, I'm freaking.  I've hardly ran since that weekend (4, 6, and 5...all several days apart).  I'm going to do 15 tomorrow, try for a shorter run thur or fri and 10 on the first.  I'm worried I'm not running enough, that I'm tapering too severely.  The odd thing is, I just haven't felt like running. Well until now, now that I'm ready to puke I want to go run to calm down.

Aaack. How am I going to manage the anxiety until then????

We missed you BBM!  We had fun with a much too brief visit.  I do hope it can be an annual event.  Callie is here predictably this time of year...

10 miles to go.

It does like we're going to get away with just a scar on E's face (nose, upper and lower lips) and leg, and he's got a blooming black eye.  His teeth seem to have tightened back up pretty well, and I'm now pretty certain he didn't break his nose or have much of a concussion (though he was puking the next morning, making me fret more).  He took a header from about 4' up onto our thin carpet over cement basement floor.  He and DD were doing a play they made up, and he was jumping off the bar to take his final bow.  I've even got video tape of it.  The play was really cute, but there's no way I could ever watch it.

Graceie, while it might not seem logical, it sounds like maybe you need to focus on strengthening your core, starting with very gentle strengthening working up to planks.

Edit:  Kathleen we know you can do it.  The 12/23 was amazing.  Just as amazing as you are.

Oh Wendy that sounds awful! You'd be amazed how well facial scars heal.  I had a scar starting between my eyes that went all the way down my nose and another one (different events) that came from my ear across my cheek under my cheekbone.  You can't tell now that either scar is there. I had them my whole life and sometime in teen/young adulthood they just faded completely away. I had another one on my eyebrow as well, but age has hidden that one (it's slid under that skin now... sigh).

Thanks...I want to believe you, I truly do.

Geo that sound scary glad things are ok , Ive had good luck with the OTC scar removers scar zone ect. once the cut heals

and yes I will for sure be adding in some core work dame hips they let the baby out now just tightin up again already

With any luck: this time tomorrow I will be on my way home and even approximating the right state. I've had a good time, except minus about 1.5 hrs today spent with Callie and Wendy, I devoted my entire last week to servicing other people's needs.  Right down to no Christmas eve church service. It was a great trip.I'd like you all to bring good Karma to the kerc family tomorrow: when dh parked our van at the station in MSP it was snowing, a part of the 8 inches of snow I received before I left. I did throw a snowshovel into the van, but frankly shoveling at midnight in a dark station parking lot = for the birds.

It was super fun to stop and see Geofizz and Callie. Even if I did hear for the next 2 hours about how we were only there for five minutes.  I stopped for about 10 minutes to submit my grades along the way and was supremely thankful I had the foresight to purchase a very interesting book for Erin to read while I had to scrounge with my grading stuff.

I am planning a trip south this summer sometime -- my dh's grandparents are in their mid nineties (and live in Dayton). MIL is struggling with loosing her parents and needs her kids. BIL is expecting a baby, which means our family needs to come here to support MIL. Not that she's a mess or anything, just it is definitely a time in her life when I think she could use her kids.

Speaking of summer: August sometime, how does anyone feel about central wisconsin? I think the timing might be right for Geofizz's trip to see the non-dome Metrodome.

Geofizz... I have been in the emergency room enough times to feels your fear. When ds2 had stitches, multiple times, the plastic surgeon said the scar creams, etc don't do anything. The most important thing is to keep it out of the sun for something like a year! We did the best we could, but I can still see the scars. I'm hopeful that they go away though.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am on Long Island and can take a ferry to CT. I am also considering Gansett and Trail Dawgz. I think I will wait to see when exactly the Bear Mountain races are though. Has anyone done any of those?

Thanks for the commiseration.  This is more of a shearing off of most of the skin on his nose and upper lip than a cut.  Cut on the lower lip.  It's about a 1/2" disk of pure scab right now on the tip of his nose.  "Rudolph, the red nosed 5 year old...."  It was healing a bit better, and then his cousin smacked him in the side of the face with a ball and opened the whole thing up again.

Still wondering if the ER would have been a good choice.

I've got my own facial art from when I was about 3.  Same spot.  Evidently nose scars are genetic.

Great to see you around again S&S.  Did you guys move far?

This is crazy, happened today in my home state. 5 chair lifts derailed and fell 30 feet to the ground at Sugarloaf Mt. (a ski resort). 8 were injured, not critically, although one was taken by helicopter to Maine Med. I was considering a ski trip for my DH and my anniversary this Friday, but have definitely decided that's not an option.

I know!  I used to ski there every weekend when I was in college.  Kind of freaked me out a bit to read about that, even if I haven't skiied Sugarloaf since, um, about 1989!

Geo ~ glad E is doing better.  My DS fell on an open suitcase zipper when he was 2 and sliced his gum open.  Truly terrifying to see the blood running from their faces.  But everyone is right, facial scars heal very well.

BBM ~ so CAN do it and you WILL do great!!!!  You've put in the work, you are supposed to feel this way during taper.  Go, Rock That GOOFY!!!!!

kerc ~ hope you're not too snowbound when you arrive.

SandS ~ good to have you back!  I've got no races to recomend, but I know you'll find a good one.

RR: 3 miles on the indoor track at the Y and 15 minutes on the elliptical.  The run felt really good orngbiggrin.gif

How long ago did you have your baby?  The effects of the hormones relaxing the pelvis can take quite a while to subside.  If it's really bad, I'd suggest a consult with a chiropractor.  If you need a referral to one in the area good with pregnancy/postpartum, let me know.

You've got this.  Don't let the taper madness win!

Scary!  So glad it wasn't worse.  What do you want to bet that someday he wants to watch that video?

Gah.  Cause I needed more anxiety about DS snowboarding, and wanting to take DD up to teach her.

Oh, Dingos, my heart is just breaking.  We just got an email that a mama from Ellie's grade (from her class last year) was found dead in her home on the 23rd.  No details, but she was hospitalized for a significant amount of time last year with pneumonia, so I'm assuming she had some kind of underlying health condition.  The letter from the school counselor specifically asked that parents refrain from gossip until details are released, so there really isn't a way of finding out any other details.

She was the mama to 2- a 1st grader who Ellie adores- and a preschooler, and had a husband who I'd never met.  I just can't get my head around what they must be going through.

I've been really stewing about how to talk with Ellie about this.  She's at my mom's for a few days so I have a bit of time to formulate a plan.  I definitely don't want to wait until she hears about it at school, as I know the counselor will be coming in to talk with the class.  E tends to be really matter of fact about death, but it's the first time that something like this has hit so close to home for her.

Hug your babies tonight.

On a lighter note:

You guys wanted a Seattle race.........Who's in?  Team Dingo!

Warrior Dash WA  jumpers.gif

ETA:  You get to pick your wave time, and it's $40 until 12/31, then goes up to $50.  I'd be up to registering now if anyone else wants to register in the same wave.

motivated that does sound scary and weird maybe that why I hate ski lifts another reason for cross country I guess wink1.gif

Memiles thats so sad gloomy.gif  I hope that there is support for the family and those kids all without there mamaa : ( and snow bording is fun Im sure the risk of lift acedents is way way lower then the risk of say car acidents or serous falls . Yes if you know a good chro please please please let me know Ive went to a few during my pregnacy they all sucked . my son was born 7 months ago ( you were there smile.gif) I think it should be better buy now

S&S~ Good to see you back! You could come run the Colfax Marathon "with" me on May 15. orngbiggrin.gif And by "with", I mean at least an hour faster than me! winky.gif

geo~Ugh. hug.gif The scars really do fade. I had one on my cheek from falling off the babysitter's porch when I was little. I thought it was a lifer, but it seems to have gradually disappeared over the past 10 years...

bbm~You've SO got it in the bag. Dude, you did 12/23. You are going to rock that goofy!!!

I'm so bummed I missed out on the dingo meet-up, but it just wasn't going to happen today. Maybe if it had been a day or two later. We delivered my niece back to my sister and BIL today, in completely the opposite direction. greensad.gif

On the lift accident...don't let it totally freak you out. I'm a moderator on a ski message board for women, so as you can imagine, the story has been a hot topic today. Sugarloaf is the home resort for a couple of longtime members, and according to one, that particular lift has been long overdue for replacement. Lift accidents are truly a freak thing. They just don't happen often. While it's spurred a discussion on whether it's safer to keep the bar up or down, not a single member of the forums has expressed even the slightest hesitancy about continuing to ride ski lifts.

As for me, no fm today. And I'm starting to feel the effects of all this FOOD. Blech. I swear, I have yet to actually reach the point of feeling hungry since I've been home. And that's not really a good thing. Tomorrow, a run. Maybe a bit longer, depending on what time I wake up and get out. My mom scheduled me for a pedicure at noon. Which I am absolutely joy.gif about, but a little bag.gif as well. Seeing as how my big toenail is still 2/3 purple from when I bruised it in AUGUST, and my fourth toenail is about 2/3 grown back in from falling off the second time. redface.gif I kind of feel sorry for the nail tech.

Nick--like JayGee, my thighs get cold. And my knees.

JayGee--good luck with all that unpacking. I don't envy you!

mommajb--in our case, I think it's a personality issue. DH has a brother who is 4 years younger who remembers how DH freaked out about stuff on a regular basis. That does not bode well for our future. I get that this is karma coming for him, but I'm not sure what I've done to deserve it. lol.gif

BBM--how awful! That stinks for you. greensad.gif Also, it will be fine. Really, it will be fine.

Geo-that sounds awful. My mom swears by cocoa butter. That's what she used after my faceplants, both of which required stitches. One scar is on the bridge of my nose between my eyes but it's overshadowed by wrinkles these days. The other is at my hairline on my forehead, but I don't notice it unless I'm looking for it.

MM--Eek! Ski lifts already terrify me. Then again, we rarely ride them so I guess I won't worry too much.

memiles--that's such sad news.

tjsmama--are you going to run the Colfax Marathon in May? I want to run one in 2011, but I don't think it's even vaguely realistic until R is full-day school so I can do long runs then and either take J with or get a babysitter. Enjoy your pedicure!

Put 3 miles in the bank today. Tomorrow's plan is to go to a running store and find insulated tights so I can stop being cold during my runs.

If you are breastfeeding the extra hormones from that can make the relaxin take longer to leave your system (I think.) My hips always felt really achy and loose until I had completely weaned.

Geo~I can't imagine how scary that must have been! I'm really glad I have a scaredy-cat for a child, lol!

Nick~my belly always gets cold and everything I wear rides up/untucks as I run. I get back from a run and my stomach will be bright red (which makes the stretch marks even more lovely, lol!)

BBM~you are going to rock that marathon!

I didn't realize there were so many W.WA Dingos (and MDC mamas!) My DH and I are moving back there after I leave Iraq. I grew up on in Eastern WA, but haven't lived there since 2003.
