daycare moms - am I the only one that brings baby/child in without a coat on in winter? - Page 2

We dont go to daycare, but I take her to my job at someones house everyday. We dont bundle. Half the time she doesnt even have socks on. She is going from the warm car to their 80 degree house, why does she need socks? The older woman I work for is always giving me greif about her getting frostbite. :).

Nope. When DD was in daycare, I'd put her polar fleece jacket on her, and a blanket over her legs. I didn't even pre-heat the car - we live in Canada - children need to toughen up LOL. (Seriously though - it's not THAT cold most days where we live - when I lived in Edmonton I would have preheated!).

I bought a second snowsuit and left it at daycare so that I didn't have to bring it every day. Besides the safety aspects of sitting in the carseat with a snowsuit, I'll do anything to avoid having to stuff my child into a snowsuit if I don't have to! What a pain! I also try to avoid stuffing DS into his snowsuit when I walk up the laneway to collect DD off the school bus - I prefer to put him under my coat in his Ergo. DD will soon have to wear a snowsuit to school and I dread it.

I do keep blankets and a snowsuit for each child in the vehicle though. Our old truck broke down twice and it was good that we had the blankets. And last month, I was involved in a car accident - even though it wasn't THAT cold out, it was cold enough I was glad for blankets to pile on top of DS while we were waiting for the paramedics to come to check us over.

I have a question - what is considered to be bundled for a 8-10 mo?

A layer of woolies + dawn snowsuit (Columbia, not bulky at all) - is it safe for being in a car seat? is it too warm for a 30 min drive?

a snow suit is not safe for a car seat, even if ti is the type with the car seat hole in it (I have one of those for my daughter, she is not in it in the car, I use it for taking her out to the bus stop before school to wait with the older kids)

and if its too warm or not depends on a lot of factors including the child... like my husband as a child, he would have to put on three layers of pants, snow pants and THEN a snow suit before he was okay with going outside and never took off his coat in the car even for long trips when his brothers would... whereas I would wear shorts in below 0 weather just fine. Our weather was very similar (northern illinois gets very cold and michigan... well you can imagine)

Also, another thing you need to have the clothes on hand for, even if the car does not break down, they do not need it at daycare or something does not happen within the vehicle needing a change of clothes... is car accidents. We never expect them and it does not matter  how new your car is it can still happen to you.

well, think of it this way - put on a layer of woolies + a dawn snowsuit then get in a heated car for 30 minutes.  i'd think that was too warm.

for me, bundled means - heavy jacket, hat, mittens, boots, with blanket on top of all that.
