Anyone know about insurance coverage of home births in Cincinnati

I've been looking into home births and I've been wondering if insurance will cover it in Cincinnati. From what I understand even finding a home birth midwife in Ohio is tough so I'm guessing getting the insurance to cover it would be really tough. I have Independence administrators it seems to be a partner or part of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

I don't know about Cincinnati, but i just met with homebirth midwives in Columbus and they gave me the number of a billing specialist they work with, who can often obtain out-of-network coverage for homebirths, which ends up cutting back on cost considerably, especially since homebirths cost less than hospital births. Maybe whoever you find in Cincinnati will work with someone similar?

Did you find anything out?  I'm on my fourth delivery and I'm not very happy with my OB office anymore.

I haven't checked into it yet. I think I am just going to do a hospital birth. I went to Dr. Bowen's office the other day and really liked it.

Yes, many hb midwives in Cincinnati reimburse. I was reimbursed for the entire thing one year later through aetna. Finding midwives is a bit difficult. Start here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cincinnatihomebirth/

There is a strong, beautiful hb community in Cincinnati if you know where to look.

Good luck!

Most ins companies cover homebirth midwifery services some don't. It doesn't matter where you live. Why is it it so hard to find us? We're here!

PS, Anthem even paid my entire fee, even before the birth (last yr in Batavia)! I've also had clients reimbursed for my services from Cigna and a few others, but they were slower to pay than Anthem.
