where tomjon came from to dar

hi dar,
tomjon is actually a combination of our sons names, tommy and jonathan. Could you please tell me more about the Discworld series that you were talking about? Our boys love to read and would probably enjoy something that includes a combination of their names.
thanks,
tomjon

TomJon is the name of the prince in the Discworld series, written by Terry Pratchett. I know he's in Wyrd Sisters, and maybe in another one? They're hard to describe but popular with the teen unschooler crowd around here. There are also videos of some of the series, which are pretty good... weird, but good.

Discworld is great, funny for adults because of the satire, but such great stories even without that level of understanding for a younger reader.

They are not sexually explicit but can get pretty violent and explicit in their descriptions of said violence.

They are HILLARIOUS. If you are looking for some specifically aimed at younger readers I recommend

Maurice and his Amazing Educated Rodents
and
The Wee Free Men

both written for young adults.

We love Discworld!

our library has at least one of Pratchett's novels over in the children's section (not the young adults, but the children's; by contrast, Redwall is in young adults). I think it was Maurice and His Amazing Educated Rodents, as mentioned above. It did seem more accessible to kids. I don't remember The Wee Free Men at all...must go check the library's online catalog.

I love his stuff. My views on the tooth fairy(s) have totally been warped...now I believe in them in a Discworld way.
