For those that have experience with EI, what exactly happens? I feel like I'm already hostile towards this program even though we haven't been through it yet. I am scared of them finding a "problem" because it's their job to do so, and of them telling me how to parent. I am SUPER distrustful of public education programs of any kind. Will they allow me to be at the sessions?
We LOVE our EI specialist. Â LOVE!! Â When I tell DS she's coming, he runs to the window to watch for her car. Â She is certainly not looking for problems that aren't there. Â She's 100% supportive of our little guy (and our very unconventional parenting choices!). Â She brings lots of fun new toys for DS to play with each session. Â I am always there, always involved in the session.
Â
We've had 2 speech therapy consults, one at 2 years, and one at around 30 months. Â DS had fun! Â He thought it was all play time. Â We didn't end up needing further visits, but I would have been very confident in the therapist that we had, should we have needed more help.
Â
Give it a try. Â If you or your child don't click with the specialist assigned to you, you can always switch. Â And if that doesn't work either, you can just stop the services.
