Strange update. Today DS touched all the balls, And I didn't make a big deal of it. He lost interest in the tree pretty quick, and barely pulled anything off today. :)
This is much like our experience too. We decorated the tree at night while the little ones (19-month-old twin boys) were sleeping. We put the breakable ornaments toward the top and the less breakable ones at the bottom (though we misjudged a few, that were more fragile than we thought. Oh well). The first day, they kept taking ornaments off, the second day a little less. And now they just leave them on and stand at look at the tree, pat it, etc. Occasionally an ornament is removed, but no big deal. I'm really glad we didn't decide to forego it, or to encase it in superyards or something, as it's worked out pretty well. (knock on wood!)
