Appliques for totes?

For Christmas I want to applique canvas totes for my sisters (ages 14 and 12).  I don't want to buy a pre-made appliques though. I want to cut them out of fabric and sew them on if you KWIM.  Does anyone have good websites with cute templates or even ideas that would be cute.  With 2 more papers to finish by the end of the semester my mind is shot out of ideas haha!

I like initials. 

I'm not an artist, but I frequently draw simple things to applique.  If I'm having trouble I do a google image search for whatever it is + the word "outline."

Branches and leaves, birds, nature things those all seem popular.
