Dd12 loves this dress form from Pottern Barn Teen and is interested in something like it for hanging her scarves, necklaces, etc. as a Christmas gift. However, as all things PB Teen, it is really expensive. She doesn't expect us to spend that much, but a nice alternative would be good. Any ideas?

Do you have a Joann Fabrics store near you? They have dress forms on sale for much less (regular price is about the same as PB). You could get some nice fabric to co-ordinate with her room decor and cover it yourself.Â

You can look for vintage forms in antique shops, eBay, Craigslist etc. but I think they are usually pricey.Â

Yes to this. Also - if you are going to buy it from Joann sign up online for their mailing list - you should get a coupon for 40% in stores or online any one item!

The problem with those dress forms from JoAnns is that you really can't pin into them like the one from the PB. I have one. This dress form would be better. http://www.amazon.com/Female-Jersey-Dress-Form-Necktop/dp/B0014OE08E/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1291565280&sr=8-6

How complex is it to cover a dress form? I'm not much of a seamstress? The other option I found was a wire one, which seems to be a lot less expensive. However, the ones I found that were of reasonable price were all black and her room is white, green, and blue. This one, for instance: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200548217390&rvr_id=179476458678&crlp=1_263602_304642&UA=%3F*I8&GUID=4bcd2f001280a02652b5e625ffd2474e&itemid=200548217390&ff4=263602_304642

Of course, we'd lose the pinning aspect as well if we went with wire.
