Nursing during pregnancy and wieght gain

I am gaining more weight then 'they' would like. I also gained a lot of weight with DS, all of which fell off almost immediately after birth (like 40lbs in the first 6 weeks).

Is there any information about nursing during pregnancy and if that affects weight gain?

I eat a really healthy diet, I am gluten free, eat very little red meat, no pork. I mostly eat eggs, chicken, dairy, fruits and veggies and occasionally brown rice pasta.

I did the math and I honestly don't understand how I could still be gaining so much weight (approx 2 lbs a week) as I am barely meeting 2000 calories.

Is this just my body gearing up for nursing two? Any one have experience?

I think I'll cross post this is breastfeeding too...

I started gaining weight a bit earlier this time, while nursing, than I did the first time, despite having much worse morning sickness and eating a lot less because of it.

I've nursed through 3 pregnancies - one to 7 months when my first son weaned, one to 13 weeks (we lost that baby) and one to about 12-15 weeks again but my second son weaned that time.  I gained almost the same amount of weight (um, alot - 60+#) with #1 not nursing and with #2 nursing.  So nursing didn't impact my weight gain although my diets were different.

I believe, and I'm not a doctor, that the body does what it needs to do.  I nursed on demand both of my boys and lost about 70# the first year without dieting (so 10 more than what I gained).

I'm definitely not eating as much this time due to never having a chance to sit down with 2 rowdy boys ransacking the house every 11minutes, but I gained 12 pounds last month.  OPPSIE.  I'm actually eating the SAME amount I would eat while nursing and losing weight.

I would try to make healthy choices when possible, fluids, veggies, fruits and not to worry about it.

Also, do you think 2000 calories is enough?  Maybe your body is panicking that it needs more food and is holding on to everything?

I've actually gained less weight while pregnant and nursing than at this point with DD. I was up 7lbs at 12 weeks and I know I was up another 10 lbs by the third tri with a gain of 27 lbs total. This time, I'm up 7 lbs at 20 weeks. Go figure.
