We got one! I'm 10 weeks to the day, so I was braced to not hear it, but our midwife is awesome. I think she's been a midwife for as long as I've been alive, and I'm beginning to think there's nothing she can't do. I didn't get a heart rate, but she said it sounded perfect. Hooray!
Anyone get a hb with doppler yet? - Page 2
I have an appointment with my MW tomorrow. I will be 13 weeks, she's going try to hear the heartbeat with the doppler. I saw an OB for our first appointment at 8 weeks, and had and early ultrasound so we got to see baby and hear a heartbeat. We've since switched to the MW and I can't wait for our appointment tomorrow!
Just wanted to chime in about my past experiences. We haven't tried with this pregnancy yet (appt is next week at 12w2d), but in my past pregnancies we never found it (with my grand-midwife) until I was 12 weeks, 13 weeks, and 15 weeks, respectively. I will be surprised if we hear it next week. Thankfully I have an ultrasound next week too (for screening), cause when we don't hear it next week, my following appointment would be at 16 weeks and I don't want to wait that long.
O.K. for those of you that have heard the heartbeat via doppler before, either this pregnancy or previous pregnancies, can you explain to me how it sounded early on? I'm not sure what I was expecting yesterday, I guess for it to sound more like I've heard when a mama is in labor, nice and loud. What I heard was so hard to distinguish because it was all mixed up with my heartbeat. My OB warned me that it would be hard to hear because it was picking up my heartbeat as well. I heard what he said I should hear but still. I guess I'm just worried that it wasn't real. I'm 11w4d.
Annie, for me it was loud & clear, but we heard my heartbeat a lot when looking for it and before we found it my midwife kept saying, "Was that it? I heard something." Maybe it's because I have an anterior placenta, and she had to go kind of to the side to hear the heartbeat? Really, though, pigirl is right. Your OB really should know what he's talking about, and if he said it sounded right it probably did.
