Vitamin D drops and diarrhea?

My LO is just getting over diarrhea that he's had for over a week.

I thought at first that he picked something up at the doctor's office but now I'm suspicious because of something that caught my eye while google searching. Someone claimed their vitamin drops were giving their baby diarrhea. They were talking about multi vitamin drops, not just vit D though.

My DS diarrhea started right when I started giving him the vitamin D drops. And I stopped giving them a couple of days ago and he seems to be improving. Coincidence???

I guess it is possible.  Don't give the drops for three days and see if it gets better.  Then start the drops again and see if it returns.

Do you mind sharing which brand of drops you are using?

They are Carlson Baby D drops- 400 iu per drop.

Hmmm... I use (Canadian) baby D drops and my DS has had more watery and frequent stool since starting them.  But I started them when I started solids, so I can't tell if it is related.  Ithink I will do a stop-start trial to see!  Thanks for the info.

I would try cutting them out for a few days and see what happens. For what it's worth, Carlson drops don't affect my daughter that way, but definitely every child is different. Now that you mention solids, though, I think it's a lot more likely that they are the culprit.

The first ingredient in the Vitamin D drops is glycerin.  So yes, it's likely they caused the diarrhea.  We had that nasty surprise this week, and I happened to check the label...and there it was.
