hard swollen lump below child's knee

Hi,

Please move this if there is a better place for this thread. I chose this section because I know I have read about children having MRIs.

I noticed a swollen , hard lump below my 7 year old son's knee. I thought he hurt it, so we elevated it, compressed it and iced it. It still looked the same so I made an appt with an orthopedic doctor. The doctor took xrays. He was calling it a lesion? He said it was not irregular shaped, so it is probably benign. But, he said it could be cancer and we need to rule it out. He said we would need an mri first. Then we would have to drive several hours to see an oncologist. Feedback please, I am completely freaking out! I'm so scared.

He said it could be a cyst?

He had the MRI today. I had no idea it would make such a loud, awful noise. I was told the radiologist will write up a report and fax it to our dr today or tomorrow.

Anyone have experience with bone tumors on an MRI?
