timeline?

Anyone doing a timeline? Care to share? We are going to start one, but I'm not quite sure how I'd like to do this. I'm salivating over the Homeschool in the Woods items, but can't afford it right now. I managed to get stickers from Pandia Press to use. They are black & white, but nice. I think we'll need to do this homemade for now, but I am very open to hearing what others are doing. I've got a ton of large file folder I got on clearance, the stickers, and a free pdf with timeline dates to print on paper. I'm not sure if this will work, but I'm visualizing gluing the file folders together accordian style and using photo mount tape to put the printed dates on. Then dd can put on the stickers and write in details. Soooooo- what are you doing?

We're just starting timelines, they're not going to be very fancy, and I'm not actually sure how durable they will be, but I think they will meet our needs now, which are mainly to start grasping the timescales involved in the various things we're learning about--we're pretty eclectic, so we're jumping around like mad.  And I want something that we can keep on the wall--easy accessibility means we'll actually refer to it frequently.

I am planning to try using freezer paper (it's more plastic-y on one side than I remember as a kid, which I think will give it some extra strength), probably reinforced with clear tape on the edge, and draw 2 timelines per sheet--I have a stretch of wall that's about 4 feet long that I can fill, so we'll have 2 sheets that are 4 feet long and 2 hand-drawn timelines on each--to be able to compare the timescales.

I *think* what I want to do is:

-timeline of the history of the earth, 4.5 bil yrs ago to present

-something starting around the Cambrian era, I want us to be able to see the rise and fall of dinosaurs, beginning of flowering plants, stuff like that, so about 550 mil yrs ago

-timeline of human history, starting with early hominids branching off, roughly 6 bil years ago (we got started in this because the kids and I saw a really interesting documentary on human evolution)

-timeline of recorded human history, I'm thinking roughly 10,000 years ago
