I found the MINT M&M'S!  Albertsons had them last night, even better was my coupoon LOL.

Today is just blah, Arizona is cloudly and overcast, has been for the past couple days.  For some reason BOTH toilets needed the plunger today and I ended up with wet feet irked.gif.  That was not the holiday magic I had in mind for this morning.  Now Im playing catch up with towels and laundry.

I may take myself to the library this afternoon just to 'get out' for a little bit.

We are down to the last $18 of the year.   I wanted to have more to take over into the New Year, maybe even $100, but things didn't stretch out.  However, We are enjoying the holiday spirit, making cookies and decorating them, decorated a Ginger Bread House, the girls loved this, and yes, I have both of my girls with me for Christmas for the first time in 5 years....which is accounting for most of my holiday cheer!

We are dead broke, but we have each other.  I'm praying to pull together the money to move on Jan 1, maybe with help.  We not only need the deposit of $850, but the rent of $850mo.  Our beautiful wooden table was destroyed (accidently) when we moved last, so we need a new table, (we have chairs), we need 2 twin beds (the girls are begging me to let them have their own beds (and we need sheets) and we need a washer and dryer, and possibly a fridge.  It will be a miracle if we actually swing it, but we have to get out of my parents house.  It's getting tough there, dad is sick and losing memory, and mom is having some serious inability to accept that dad is not functioning well. I've been helping, but mom doesn't want me to, so given that, I need to go.  My kids miss being able to get messy or loud.  I wish I knew of some resources to help us come up with the money for the deposit.  The owner will let me pay it in two months.  As soon as I move, I will be starting to care for two babies, so I can bring more income in.  I'm looking forward to the change in our lives.

Looking ahead to the new year, and Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas!

Jyotsna, good luck moving out, I will be thinking of you and hoping you get all the things you need.

Zebra, yay for mint M&Ms, I never had them but they sound yummy!

As for me, DH's grampa sent us a large monetary Christmas gift and it could not have come at a better time. I had no money to pay January's mortgage. He has given us thousands over the years and if it weren't for him, I don't know where we would be. It is a shame that money had to go to bills instead of savings! But I am just thankful to not be in debt (besides SL and mortgage) or on the street! Also, that job I applied to still hasn't let me know either way what their decision is. She said in an email:

Hi Katie,

It’s was a pleasure speaking with you yesterday.  I’m excited about the possibilities you could offer our company and look forward to speaking with you soon.

Take care & have a merry Christmas.

So that sounds good, right?? I sooooooooooooo hope they hire me! We need the money soooooooooooo badly. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. I have been checking email round the clock and every time the phone rings, I jump 5 feet.

That is what I figured, too. We first spoke on Monday (the 20th) and I ended the conversation with, "Hope to hear from you soon." And she said, "Oh you will!" And then I didn't hear from her Tuesday so I emailed her a thank you for calling, blah blah, and that was her response sent immediately. So maybe this week was just too busy, who knows. It sounds like she likes me, but the problem is they were hiring FT and I can only do PT. She said she would be willing to discuss it and figure something out. *fingers crossed!!!*

Well, the in-laws gave us $150 cash for our gift this year. Nice, right? Except it's going to be spent on food, gas, and rent, and that's hardly, well, gift-y, if you know what I mean? Sigh. Anyway, it was good timing because DH had to gas up the van to take DW#2 clear across the valley because her mom's being rushed to the hospital. We live in Tempe and the hospital is at 96th Ave. or something like that (it's a long drive!). So looks like the only actual "treat" that's going to come out of that check is the Subway meal we had for dinner tonight.

And today we got notification from DES that they want a bunch of info on DW#2 since we want to add her to the household--including a birth certificate, which it's going to cost $50 we don't have to order from Michigan because she can't find the copy she used to have. Now I've got to go look up and see if there's any alternative we can give them. Ugh. The real kicker is that she may have found a job, which really renders the whole thing moot. We just had no idea she'd find work again so quickly.

ETA: Turns out DW#2's mom is okay. She was having chest pains, but apparently nitro alleviated it. They're keeping her overnight for observation, and DW#2 and DH got home at about 0330. Still scary, and still gift money spent on gas, but definitely not dire.

This past week was absolutely hellacious. I'm a waitress and we were super busy which was awesome but I got stiffed on tips by a bunch of people. It makes me really angry because I give excellent service. Also, I noticed that people were tipping poorly in general all week. I thought working xmas eve would be a real money maker but I was so wrong. It was terrible. My income isn't reliable at all. I did, however, receive $820 from an inheritance from my great aunt. RIP Aunt Evelyn and thank you! The check couldn't have come at a better time, Now I have $ to buy books from next semester. yay!!

Ravin- hey that $150 is a few bucks less you need to find in a week for bills right??  When I deal with DES they want the birth cert.  Mine was from out of state too and I had to order a copy. DS was born here so they could look his up online.

Hello everyone- joining the thread late, on xmas. We are a foodstamp, calworks, and medi-cal family that makes a little money here and there on odd jobs. I am in grad school and DP is unemployed/underemployed and has been for a couple years now. Our son is 11 months old.

I was so grateful for some unexpected money that came in this month, allowing us to feast on the solstice and pay January's rent (I don't get financial aid until February). We were able to buy a few presents for our son, and got a ridiculous amount for him from relatives as well. We really came through December in a way I could not have foreseen or expected, and for that I am grateful.

Abbylotus, I am so sorry you got stiffed! I can't believe anyone would stiff a waitress ever, let alone at Christmas time!

Well apparently I was suspended from Financial aid because of a mix up which they are claiming I was on probation from 5 years ago when I have never attended college. Go figure. Can't get it fixed in time to go to school next month so for now I am just going to worry about it later and take on more hrs at work. Money is still okay for us and xmas was okay as I spent my whole time at work. Anyways, hugs everyone!

Oh NO!  Emi that sucks, they can't help you figure it out?

AFM...my bank acct dropped below 1K, which really stresses me out since I have only 150 a week in income coming in....and 1300 a month in bills.  My bank balance (savings) has kept us afloat and now it is do or die.  Tax refunds cant come soon enough....

They can't help me until January 4th when school opens back up. It won't be fixed by time classes start that week as I have to write letters and appeal even though I have never been. I tried to fix it when I first started the fall semester but noone could help or find anything and in the end I was told I need to just keep my grades up and not have a low gpa. My GPA was of course .1 to low of the requirements so partly that is my fault. I took on working online full time still, working mostly full time at my new job, plus school, kids, life. Way to much for me and I learned a huge lesson.

Im staring to look for a full time job w. bene's.  I know its going to push me over the edge and make me go nuts but I need the bene's.  I hate call center work (and thats all there is in this town it seems).   I am going to be looking at a carpayment in the next year or so plus DS needs some things are not covered under state medical.  I have this wonderful teaching certificate and there are NO teaching jobs.  Ugh.

I hope I can hold out long enough working full time that I can get $$.  I know Im employable at the dreaded call center... ugh

I hope 2011 is much better than 2010
