talk to me about having one hip higher and SPD/SI joint pain

I hope this is in the right forum...

So I've noticed for years that my right hip is higher than my left, but I thought maybe I was imagining it.  Then about six months ago I saw a massage therapist who said, "Hey, did you know your right hip is a lot higher than your left?"  She thought it looked postural.

While I was pregnant I had the most hobbling pelvic pain that would switch from being in my left buttock (not bad) to being in my front at about the left side of my pelvis joint (excruciating... I could barely walk).  After I gave birth it got better, but I had weird backaches that would run down my left leg.  It all got better after I began bodyweight squatting and hiking, so I don't have back pain anymore.

But my right hip is still higher.  And my left side is generally weaker.

What can I do about it?  Are there exercises I can do?  Has anyone ever helped their hip imbalance with yoga or PT?

I got really really weak while I was pregnant because the hip pain limited my activity and mobility.  When we ttc again, I don't want to go through that again if I can help it.

Both DH and I have had really good luck with PT for issues like this.  I had pregnancy-related SI joint rotation, and DH has dealt with hip alignment and leg-length issues.  In my case, the PT rotated the SI back in place (yeeaoch!) allowing me to walk out of the office pain free, singing the woman's praises.  In DH's case, he has a series of exercises and stretches to do several times a week indefinitely to maintain the alignment and strengthen muscles in the region.

I'm going to move this to health and healing. But my sister had great luck with PT for hip issues when pregnant. My son had one leg longer than the other and the chiropractor said it was in his hips, did an adjustment, and fixed it. I don't know if either was in the exact same situation though. Sometimes one hip higher than the other is a sign of scoliosis (it is in me).

I would see a DO that does osteopathic manipulative treatment.  I have one hip higher than the other that is corrected w/ such treatment.

this.  also I'd look into Katy Bowman's work.  I don't know much about it other than theory and what I've read (though the DVD's are on their way to me thanks to a friend.)  However, I suspect this could be quite helpful.

One of my hips is higher than the other and when the Osteopath pulls my legs straight one looks shorter!

I was hit by a bicycle from the right side when out walking years ago and this moved a vertebrae in my back to one side causing a bit of a curve. Releasing tissues along my spine helps the vertebrae re-align better and solves the hip problem - for while. I am going to book with a local Alexander Technique practitioner to help me keep better posture to see if this will help.

I would guess that your pelvis is misaligned, either your innominates or your sacrum, or a combination thereof.  Osteopathic or naturopathic manipulation would address it nicely.
