Where to begin with homeschooling in central MA?

I'm trying to gather some information for a local mom who is withdrawing her child from school to begin homeschooling.  There is a ton of information to sort through about how to do this, and what she really needs is a way to sort through it and to connect with other homeschooling parents.  Can anyone direct me to the right resources?

My only other piece of advice is to not ask the school department for advice on how to go about things, because they are notorious for being uninformed, misinformed, and trying to pass off school policy as law. Learn how to navigate the legal waters of homeschooling by asking seasoned homeschoolers.
