We did this Borax snowflake craft with a kindergarten classroom recently and it went great. Obviously many parts of this would be too hard for a not-quite-2-year-old, but they could help twist the pipe cleaners and do some carefully supervised stirring. Pulling out the finished snowflakes in the morning is the really fun part, and they could do that part on their own. They look really cool.

You might need a bit more than the 3 Tbsp/1 cup water mentioned in the link -- you want the solution to be supersaturated, so continue adding a little Borax to the boiling water until there are a few undissolved flakes on the bottom of the jar.

these are called cookie stars BUT I think you could make them a snowflake craft if done in white (maybe add glitter at the end or sequins to the yarn while wrapping) and would likely be pretty age appropriate for a 2-ish-yr-old or older.

Thanks for all the help!!  I really like the craft stick one!  I think the boys would be able to do those!  Whats great about those is we can make more than just one each and give them as gifts!

I really want to make the borax/food coloring/water one with my older ds.  It would be great to get daddy involved with that too!

perpetual preschool has teacher ideas about different themes

here's the snow section...

i "teach" almost 2 year-olds and i'm kinda liking the one where you make prints using the ends of empty thread spools.

i was also thinking about doing the thing where you blob paint in the center of a paper and fold it and then see what shape it makes. i thought white on blue paper could be kind of snowflake-esque
