Reported: Quoting entire convo instead of just most recent reply

When I click "quote" now, it quotes the post I'm trying to quote as well as any posts that that poster had quoted. This gets rather cumbersome and results in lots of scrolling if two people have a few back-and-forths. Any plans to make it how it used to be, where just one post gets quoted?

Hi, I see what you are saying. Previously, when we'd click Quote, it would only quote the text from the post and not anything the member quoted. Now, Quoting is pulling in all of the new text and the quoted text. I can see how that can be confusing. Let me ask about this and get back with you! I hadn't noticed this had changed so thanks for bringing it up!

I actually like the new way better, so I kind of hope you don't change it back.  There used to be times when I wished I could quote more than just the most recent reply, but I couldn't.  Now it sometimes quotes more than I want it to, but I just delete the parts I don't want.

Just testing this out to see if I get the same behavior.

And yes I do get the same behavior. But it seems logical for this to occur because it maintains the full context so I suspect this is an adjustment made as an improvement. Is there a particular problem with it doing this?

After a while you can end up with a LOT of quoted text, and especially when someone has used the bold function to highlight which bit they're responding to, rather than snipping it out, and then other people respond to just the comments on the bolded bit, but quoting the whole post again, you get a lot of irrelevantly quoted stuff still in there.  I did see at least one post in a thread with 8 or 9 other posts quoted in it, it took me a bit to focus on the bits that were actually relevant to the response, y/k?

I like the new way better too, because you can leave in the parts that are relevant and just highlight parts that are unnecessary and delete them (this even works to entirely remove one of the subquotes if you don't want it there).

GoBecGo, yes it can be a bit much when there are many posts quoted. But that's more likely to be an occasional problem. And it is pretty easy to highlight and delete what you don't want quoted so it's probably more of a beneficial change that a problematic one.

Just agreeing with GoBecGo.

And illustrating how cumbersome it can get. orngtongue.gif

Yep, I can and do. But lots of other people don't, and it's not because they really want to repeat the last 14 comments they're quoting, it's because they just don't feel like snipping. So I have to scroll ... and scroll ... and scroll past the same comments over and over. Not my cup of tea, but apparently other people like it.
