My 5-month-old daughter recently had a stomach virus; she lost her appetite, and in response I pumped and stored the milk. I think I noticed my supply starting to decrease then (I work 3 days a week and typically pump 3 times during those days).
Â
As soon as she was better and ready to nurse again, I came down with a sinus infection (a week ago) and watched my output drop from 14 oz. a workday to 9. In addition, my daughter was becoming increasingly irritable while nursing, acting like she was still hungry. In desperation, I gave her some organic formula and she sucked it down and wanted more.
Â
Well, she is currently getting 2 bottles of formula a day to make up for my lack of production and nursing a lot during the night (my nipples are sore all over again). This morning, I got my first period since I got pregnant. What is going on? What should I do?
Â
Friends and family have told me that since she is so close to eating solids, I should either introduce them now or supplement with formula, while continuing to nurse her however much I can. Is our "exclusive" relationship over?
