Our 8.5 month old is getting scary hard to change. He is very strong--doctor said unusually so--and it is so difficult to change him. I didn't like the idea of a strap on a changing pad, but I did give it a shot. He flipped right on him tummy. We have some cool toys (you know, fancy stuff like my velcro watch he's not usually allowed to eat, but when in need...) to give him only during changing time and other little tricks, but sometimes it really takes two of us to get the job done, especially if he's pooped. Any miracle cures on this one, mommas?Â

Acrobatic diapering
Cecilia does this too and I have definitely resorted to the strap on her changing pad. She still flips over as well but at least she's still on the changing table! I try to do her diaper in steps-- I'll take it off and do the initial quick wipe, then let her play a bit, then continue wiping, let her play more, etc. I have some cheapo Gerber prefolds that we don't use for actual diapering, and I put one under her so that if any poop gets wiped off, it's on the prefold and not on the actual changing pad.

The one great thing, I must say, is that DH takes over diapering 99% when he's home because he's stronger and quicker about it. But a poopy still takes two!! :-p
We started counting "one.... twoo.... three!" like it was a really fun game. That seemed to help alot.

Or you can give them the diaper to hold - DD really liked to hold the diaper, rash cream and wipes and was more cooperative if she was participating a little.

I think around this age I became the master of the standing diaper change. FIL thought it was weird to see me do it, but it sure helped!

We definitely change on the floor or bed, with the changing pad & strap. We used to change him on the kitchen table (small house) with the pad, but it's too dangerous now. Can't give him the bottom cream or diaper because he wants to eat them both. I will work on my standing diaper changing skills. We use the pre-folds as a liner between our baby & the pad, too, Aimee...took us awhile to figure that one out. Thanks, folks. Diaper on!

Same here. My 10 mo DD has been like that for a few months now. We luckily started EC when she was younger so I usually let her run free when I don't have the energy to fight her. I put her on the potty, she'll pee, then I know I've got about 10 minutes before she may pee again. So we usually do the change in stages. Diaper off, potty, roam free, diaper on.Â

I got no answers Mama, I tried giving her something to keep her attention, but no go. I even do little dances and kisses on her belly and what not. She laughs adn still tries to get away.
These days, I just let her run free and get a diaper on her once she's calmed down a bit. Sometimes that does'nt happen for quite some time :)

Ds wasn't too much trouble at 8 months, but now at 15 he's a big pain about 1/3 of the diaper changes. If it's not poopy, I'll often just take off the diaper and let him go for a while. If it's poopy or I need to get it done, I've resorted to holding him down with my left elbow and forearm (my left elbow near his chin) and getting it done as quickly as I can while he kicks and screams. Not the most graceful parenting move, I admit, but it gets the job done. I talk to him in a calm, quiet voice the whole time about how we need to get the poop off his butt, and we're almost done, and when he starts pooping and peeing on the toilet we won't have to do diaper changes anymore
