Making gifts for Grandma & Grandpa - I NEED IDEAS!!!!

This time last year, I was preggers, so I had great ideas/pregger brain going on and we made ornaments with DS's handprints on them and then I painted a bit to turn them in to snowmen - they were a HUGE hit.  This year, I have major mommy brain, it's fried from working full time, taking care of the boys, so on and so forth......So, I'm stuck.  I would like to make something, along the same lines as the clear snowmen ornamenets, that I could either have DS#1 help with, incorporate DS#2's handprint, etc., etc.,  We have minimal supplies right now - I haven't had time to stock up - so I'm open to suggestions.  Would love to start on them this weekend!

Well I guess I'm not quite as creative as you lol. I bought some wood picture frames from the $1 store & I was trying to decide between letting DS paint the frame & putting a photo of him inside, or having him draw a picture to put in the frame. Or maybe a photo/paint collage. I think the inlaws will like whatever we do but I'm not sure about my parents, they weren't big on displaying our art or photos of us when we were kids so I'm not sure they will like it but that would apply to anything handmade... 

I was also considering having him paint little wooden boxes (but they didn't have those at the dollar store and I am too lazy to look anywhere else!)

OH when we were kids we made reindeer and the handprints were the antlers. But that would be kind of big I guess.

The reindeer - that's it.  That's what I'm looking for!!!  But on an ornament or just a picture to hang on the fridge or maybe put in to a frame?

Hmm either in a frame or maybe on a plaque? You can buy them cheap or just get a nice piece of wood & add ribbon or something to hang it with. Then they could hang it on their wall every Christmas? LOL I was thinking it would end up really big but I guess kid's hands are tiny so maybe it would work as an ornament too. You could get that foam paper they sell at the craft store & cut out the hands & the reindeer shape.

Hmm now I'm thinking I will do that with the frames we got (although they are kind of small). Maybe I could cut out a photo of DS's face and make it the reindeer face lol.

If I could find a ceramic plain mug, maybe at a pottery place or something along this lines...I bet Michael's or Hobby Lobby or any craft store would have them.  But I think I'm going to go for the ornament this year.  I still need to buy the pipe clear and little eyes... it's on my list to do this week!

Love this!! I think I will try it. We'd bought some air dry clay, I was going to make handprints, have the kids (5 and 2) paint them, put ribbons through them and say they were ornaments. We made two of each kid and all but one broke right away. So we will try rudolph!

 Love this one, too!!!  Maybe I'll do the Rudolph one with DS1 and the Santa with DS2.. hmmmmmm...I'm headed to the craft store this weekend and can't wait to start working on these!

My children have done handprints on a tile before and art work on a tile. That is kind of nice. Another thing I saw...which I loved..on that Ramona and Beezus movie..was the dad had a sweatshirt with all the kids handprints on it and the word Dad or something like that. I loved it. I am thinking of making DH one this year, if I can get my act together enough to do something by then.
