Ideas on what the new LO could sleep in?

So we're expecting babe #2 in the spring.

DS is 26 months and sleeps in his own twin bed in our room.  He was in a crib in our room until about 23 months.  There isn't really space to keep DS's bed in our room and set up the crib for the new babe. DH and I like to have our own bed at least part of the night and DS is usually in there half the time anyway, so bedsharing with the new babe isn't really an option for us.  We have other bedrooms, but I LOVE having the whole family sleeping in one room and definitely don't want to give that up.

Our bed is low to the floor...just a box spring with a futon on top, so I'm not sure side-caring the crib is an option (we'd have just barely enough space for this).

Looking for suggestions and solutions you love...a hammock? bassinet? delux pack-n-play?  I've got maybe 2.5-3 feet of space directly next to my side of the bed to work with.

Thanks mamas!

How about a mini-cosleeper?  Sounds perfect for the space you need.  It goes to 30 lbs in the raised bassinet position and 50 when it's used like a pack-n-play. :)  We have the original full-sized one and love it.  It's about to go on to our 4th baby.  Sounds like you could do the original, too, with 2-3 ft of room.  Both are great for travel, also.

I have a cradle very similar to this

I LOVE it.  It's substantially smaller than a crib, plus it's on the rockers so I can actually rock her in the cradle if she gets fussy in the middle of the night, but isn't actually hungry.  And the rockers have a kinda break/lock thing on the bottom so that it can be locked upright too.  I got it at Goodwill for $25.  The mattress is really just like a changing table pad.  I was surprised to discover that finding a mattress and sheets was actually not that hard.
