Ya I do that, too. I use one part liquid soap/shampoo to 5 parts of distilled water. The same soap pump can keep working for about a year, depends on how much you use it. After that they tend to get stuck a lot. Oh if you use shampoo, use those clear ones. The pearly ones don't work too well.
