Anybody with SPD?

Thread Starter

Upon much internet researching, I am starting to think this is my issue (I have an appt with the midwife next week). I am having constant pain right above where my hip bones are in the front, where I was getting the jabbing round ligament pain. I am getting regular chiropractic, which seems to be helping, but if I take too large a step or walk up stairs it's even worse. I feel like just hobbling around.

Anybody have this who can give more insight?

I had it, and it was very painful - so I feel for you.  Even trying to get out of bed really hurt.  Besides chiro care, which you are already doing, I'm not sure what else can relieve the pain (tylenol and heat?).  The only thing that worked for me was having my baby - and then the SPD was totally gone.  Hang in there!

eta:  I just saw your ticker and see that you aren't too far along - I think it's much more common the last month or two.  Definitely mention your pains to your HCP - maybe it's just your body making room for the growing baby, and you'll feel a little better in time?

I feel like I might have this problem too.  I am 32 weeks right now and it started about 12 weeks ago for me.  The pain can be pretty terrible, especially first thing in the morning.  My pain seems to cover the entire hip and pelvis area.  That area of my body makes a horrible clicking sound when I am moving around especially in the AM, If I roll over in the middle of the night the pain wakes me up.  I have read a lot about SPD and I think that this might be the issue.  I am seeing my mw sometime this weekend and I am going to discuss it with her.  I am thinking chiro care might be the only route to take, I just don't know any in my area because we are new here.

Sorry I can't offer any help but I know a lot of people on here have spoken about SPD at one time or another, so I'm sure someone can chime in with some better info.

I have it, but I was much farther along, like closer to 30 weeks. Chiro has helped, and he ices an area on my hip that helps the muscle, and that has helped. I would mention it to your HCP too because I don't know how early it can happen.

Btdt!!! So sorry! I personally would not choose ice again as my baby remained breech until I stopped icing (must not have liked the cold near her head!). Chiro helped some but needed to go a few times a week. A support belt helped some as well. Reducing the amount of driving i did helped too (mine was on the right side). Nights were surviveable ony with a ton of pillows in a semi upright position. Other than that, waiting it out was the only other option I found. It was gone as soon as I delivered.
Hang in there - I honestly think dealing with months of severe SPD is what prepared me to handle a super long (back) labor!

I had and have SPD.  For me it really limits my physical capabilities during pregnancy, and no amount of yoga can cure it. During pregnancy I cannot jog/run or do certain yoga postures and the pain gets worse the farther along I get.

I see a chiro regularly and I believe this does help a bit.

My pain was always limited to the pubic bone itself, which I am thankful for.

On the bright side, it went away immediately upon giving birth and I was able to start jogging again, pain-free 2 weeks post-partum.
