Agnes Gereb, is a Hungarian midwife who was arrested and jailed in Budapest, Hungary after a
woman unexpectedly went into an early precipitous labor and delivered
in her birth center. Agnes called the ambulance immediately and both
mother and baby were transported to the hospital. Home birth is
women's guaranteed constitutional right in Hungary but over the years
authorities introduced increasing restrictions for midwives,
essentially illegalizing out-of-hospital birth assistance. Agnes is in
a maximum security pre-trial prison held without bail. Read more about Agnes and the midwifery situation in Hungry. www.freeagnesgereb.com
