I bought some OsoCozy prefolds and I tried one in their infant size on my LO (currently 8 and a half pounds). I couldn't really figure out how to make it work. It was SO long but so narrow and by the time I got a cover over it (Thirsties Duo size 1) he looked ridiculous. Is this normal? I don't even really want to use them because they look horrible. I think next time I might try a bikini twist fold but it looked like he was really uncomfortable with it all bulky between his legs.

NBs are tiny and grow so fast! Don't worry. Fold the back down 3 or 4 inches, and as the baby grows, fold it down less. My son is 12 weeks old and he is at the end of fitting in those diapers. Getting a NB diaper that fits trimly = waste of money b/c they will grow out of it in 2 weeks.

I agree!Â
Here's the "easy" way to use a prefold and cover, if you aren't using a Snappi-
Lay the cover out. Take the prefold and fold it in thirds lengthwise, then lay in the cover. Fan/open up the back of the prefold and then fold it down a few inches to meet the size of the cover; it should still be folded in thirds in the front but open in the back, it will kind of look like a "T". Then put the baby on top and fasten the cover, making sure none of the prefold is sticking out.

Honestly, you shouldn't worry about the bulk between their legs. Babies don't naturally put their legs together, they rest with their legs apart in what's called the spread-squat position. Their knees are bent upwards towards their belly and their legs are open (about 45* from the center on each side, if you want to get technical). This actually puts the ball of the femur into the middle of the hip socket and this position is great for their hip development. So no worries there. It's the same position most people recommend when using a baby carrier, the cloth diapers just help facilitate it. ![]()
