OMG!! Buy the mattress. Hands down, end of story. Whatever it takes. You are worth this. What a horrible story. You are a true survivor.

Yeah... get the mattress like yesterday.  I cannot even imagine changing the sheets after that.  Bless your heart for sleeping there every night for two years.

Agreeing that smoking is an addiction.  My cousin and my ex-fiance went through the same program in NJ after multiple tries and the program that got them off (for more than a decade apiece) followed a regimen that had them cut out all sugar (fruits, drinks, alcohol) and taking L-glutamine for the first 2 weeks I think.

Oh. I am so sorry. Please get a new mattress. Even it needs to be on a credit card. Some debt is honestly worth having.

its not any of you're faults...there are some bad people in the world. I do really want a mattress though. oh and my bad it's been 3 years...

Anyways. I guess I will pay off the credit cards and just found out we owe the electric co. $500 from our previous house...arg...then get the mattress and put the rest into the money market account. the interests all just went down and can only get .50 for an interest rate! a few years back it was like 3%! so that stinks lol

IMO, you should go buy that new mattress (today) but bank the rest of the money for now. Wait until you see how much financial aid DH gets. In most cases, I'd say pay off debt right away but you might end up needing the money to pay for living expenses. By having that extra in the bank, you know you'll be able to keep up with the monthly debt payments. When you have more income coming in, then pay off the total debt. The point is to avoid new debt, including student loans, and chip away at the old debt until you can pay it off.

Although I agree that you def need a new mattress, I would also gently suggest looking a reasonable mid priced mattress. I really believe that buying top of the line is not always the best use of your money.

I also would suggest trying to negotiate at stores like sleep experts and mattress giant. Our salesperson took off 40-50% just because we were discussing a sale going on down the street!

OMG!  GO GET A NEW MATTRESS!!!

Will you have to pay any taxes on this money? I'd find that out first before purchasing or paying off anything.

Good luck with everything!

Get the new bed ASAP. Then no matter your spiritual leanings I would do some sort of cleansing or burning the old mattress (or pretend to) and make it into a little event for yourself in your head and heart. It doesnt matter what religious views you hold, its for your sanity!

Get all new sheets too, the most awesome pretty softest ones you can find... toss ALL the old ones, any that have touched the bed. Get ALL of the bad energy/karma/vibes surrounding it out!!!!!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Pay off debt. Have a small emergency fund. Stock your pantry.

Can you pay off the car at all or get it close? Have hubby apply for any and all scholarships he can find!
