Straws in hospitals and many public places

I find that at some hospitals and many other places when buying a drink they don't have individually wrapped straws, but you need to fish one out from a box. Shouldn't the hospital be the first place to want to prevent germs?

I have asked several times at different places, and they give me these  blank stares!

Ewww....I honestly haven't seen that in a very long time. I'm surprised you're seeing it a lot--especially in hospitals. I'd forgo the straw myself and just drink out of the cup. If this is widespread in your area I'd probably get a box of straws for the car myself as that's the only time I ever feel I absolutely need a straw.

I agree w/pp.... carry your own! I have resorted to carrying my own stuff a lot.
