Sigh... List of gluten-containing foods/ingredients?

Based on dd's reaction over the past 2 days of a big wheat push, I'm assuming wheat/gluten intolerance of some kind. I do know, of just about any food, wheat/gluten is just about the easiest, since I see gluten-free EVERYWHERE. However, we have MANY other intolerances so I'll still be making things from scratch at home. However, I need a list of things I can and can't use. For instance, I didn't know that a lot of oats contain gluten...

So, I'm looking for a list of

"These are the grains that contain gluten"

"When a label says _______ that means there's wheat or gluten in it"

and "These are the brands of ________________ that are safe"

Thanks!

I really do need a link to something. I just fed the kids Kroger brand "Crispy Rice" (Rice Krispies) and it lists "barley malt extract". Would that be/have gluten?

I did a quick search and found this.  There is a ton of information out there if you do a quick search.  For specifics, Google the name of your grocery store and "gluten-free" and see if you can find a list of foods (in your particular store) that don't contain gluten.  Trader Joe's has a list, as do other big grocery stores.

Depending upon how you eat now, it's going to be a big change.  It's easier now than it was years ago because so many more people are gluten-free (for a variety of reasons).  You can find tons of cookbooks, blogs (free!), and resources out there on how (and what!) to eat if you're gluten-free.

Yes, the Crispy Rice did have gluten in it.  Malt anything is gluten containing.

If you are already a label reader, you just need to add a few things.  Wheat, rye, barley.  Oats are very often contaminated. Malt is also gluten containing.

-Fries- if fried with other gluten food, contaminated

-Soy sauce- many have wheat in them

-Cereals- you found that one out already

-Malt- flavoring, extract or vinegar

-durum

-farian

Wheat free does NOT = gluten free.  Gluten does NOT have to be labeled (yet).  So you really have to look.

Here's a good list:
