Homebirth on NJ Family Care

Hello everyone, I am new to this site and am hoping to find someone who can help me.  My husband is a freelance photographer, I'm a student, and we've been without insurance for a while now.  When we found out that I was pregnant we signed up for NJ family care, but I find that I am being pushed into having an "on my back" hospital birth.  Is there anyone who knows if I can find a midwife on this insurance plan, or if there is anyway around giving birth in the hospital?  My heart is set on a home birth.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I'm in the same boat, due in February 2012. Did you ever find an answer to this?

Your insurance provider MUST provide you with names of a home-birth midwife who takes your insurance-- or they will pay for a midwife out of network. This ( I believe is NJ law)

Call your provider first and ask for names of Home birth midwives-- if that is unsatisfactory--

call some midwives in NJ. They will help you jump the hoops- they know the ropes - You will be able to find a midwife who will agree to take whatever the insurance will pay them!

Let me know how it turns out!

Barbara
