We are wondering what kind and what we will need to provide a safe and comfy home. We do have younger children, but everyone is fairly calm. (Famous last words?)
Thanks!

I don't have much lizard experience but my younger brother has a bearded dragon (got him when he was 10 years old I believe). It's a very friendly lizard and has a really neat personality. He certainly does require a fair amount of work, one of the reasons we know him so well is because they move him to our house when they go away or on vacation since he needs to be fed twice a day (veggies or crickets on alternating days plus fresh water daily).

Wow, Oubliette, thanks so much for your input.
I know I am coming to this late, and that you already have your pet, but I have to chime in that we LOVE our bearded dragon. She is our first reptile and has been a bit more involved than I anticipated (we are dealing with some shedding issues at the moment), but I could never have anticipated what a sweet pet she would be. My 8 year old dd wanted an iguana, and the bearded dragon was the compromise. Ours is very mellow and does fine being handled. She likes to be wrapped up and cuddled in a little blanket to fall asleep at bedtime. I have heard beardies described as the dogs of the reptile world, and I think it is totally true.Â

My husband teased me for a while that beardeddragon.org had become my new mothering.com.

So if you decide to add to your reptile menagerie, keep them in mind!
