How to remove salt deposits on wool covers?

So...I didn't realize that I have been washing and lanolizing my wool jersey covers all wrong.  Now I have a build-up of salts (pee) in the crotch area.  My evidence is a stiff area in the crotch.  How can I get rid of this?  I tried soaking them in a sink full of luke warm water and vinegar, but it didn't quite do the trick.  Should I try again with some Dr. Bronner's?  Anyone else ever have this problem?  Did I ruin them? Please say no!!

I would try washing them with Dawn soap. Rub it into the area by hand. This would basically strip the cover. Then you can rewash with wool wash and lanolize.  I did this to get rid of some lanolin spots and it worked pretty well.

Good Luck!

Thanks! I'll try my 7th generation dish soap first.  If that doesn't work, I'll bring out the big guns.
