Tonsillitis and streep throat

I just came from the doctors with my 11 month old boy and was told that he has tonsillitis and streep throat. The doctor gave me a precription for amoxicillin and told me that he absolutly needed it. I really don't want to give him an antibiotic. Is there anything else I can do or should I give it to him? THanks for all your help.

I will say that strep throat is the ONLY thing I have ever given dd antibiotics for. To me, it's potentially serious enough to warrant it. 

However, in terms of treating naturally, I think the only thing I would be comfortable with is Manuka Honey which has been shown to kill strep bacteria; however, your ds is still too young to take honey. With a child that young, I think the only thing you can do is general immune system support, such as sodium ascorbate, pro-biotics, etc. Is he still breastfeeding?
