What kind of fabric to line a dress?

I'm a total newbie at this.  I'm making this - http://butterick.mccall.com/b5165-products-7753.php?page_id=978&search_control=display&list=search  dress for DD for her 3rd birthday.  The top is lined.  What kind of fabric does one use to line a dress?  TIA!

I'd use lining fabric.  smile.gif  It's thin, slippery polyester, and comes in lots of colors.

I lined a fancy dress for dd out of a light cotton muslin.  That'll work, too, if you prefer natural fibers.  But the lining fabric helps the dress slide on and lie nicely.  What does the pattern say to use?

I use broadcloth, or some of the same fabric as the outside, or whatever I have on hand that will match.  It all seems to work just fine.   I dont like actual lining fabric b/c its slippery to sew and doesnt feel nice to me, so usually I use cotton.

I like cotton voile to line cotton dresses or else poly lining fabric.  And super thin shantung silk for really fancy dresses.

Thanks.  The 100% Poly lining is what I found at the fabric store near me.  It just didn't seem like the right thing for a little girl's dress.  I was a bit worried that the cotton fabric would be too wrinkley, but I'm going to try that.  Thanks, ladies!

I also have used muslin - actually the leftover unbleached organic cotton muslin from my wedding dress! Voile sounds like a good idea, too, especially for a warm weather dress!
