He brushes them himself in the morning with an electric toothbrush (and I finish up), at night I brush them with a regular toothbrush and then floss.

Same as everybody else in the house - once a day right before bed.

When ds1 was 3, it was twice a day (not hardcore though- we did skip sometimes). I've read that after 12hours, the bacteria on your teeth are worm shaped (and apparently can do more damage). I'll see if I can find the link.

Here it is:
Quote:
Brushing every 12 hours is important because bacteria that grown on teeth become tubular or worm-like after this amount of time. These harmful bacteria grow and multiply in the deeper layers closest to the tooth. More germs attach on the outside, forming a barrier that cuts off oxygen, causing germs to change and become anaerobic. At this point they become damaging cavity-forming bacteria that take minerals out of teeth and inflame gums.

Dd is 3y10m.  It used to be 2x a day, but now that dh has taken over bedtime, he usually doesn't brush her teeth.  So, I do it with her in the am and sometimes in the afternoon or evening too, but she only has it done consistently 1x a day.

I have an 8 yr old that I am lucky I get one time a day out of her. She hates to brush her teeth, hates baths too. :(

I voted 2 but there are days where whenever he goes in the bathroom he wants to brush his teeth....then there are days I struggle to get him to brush once.  lol the joys of a 4y/o!

Our routine for DS (3yo) is brush after breakfast and before bedtime.  When its mama's turn for these tasks, he brushes (with encouragement) as much as he feels and I finish to complete at least a 2 minute brushtime (usually with protest).  If dad remembers brushing its usually just instruction to "go and brush", I don't think there's follow-up.  I noticed today though that DS's teeth are not looking great around the gumline.  We haven't been to the dentist yet - so I'm wondering if now is the time?

Glad to hear someone else's family is on this schedule!  Sometimes I brush my teeth after breakfast, but I rarely even get my hair brushed...

twice a day, morning and night.  in the morning she brushes them herself and then I go back over them ("checking her work").  in the evening, I brush them for her.
