Christmas breakfast

Thread Starter

Christmas morning we have my mom over for a big breakfast and presents but I'm not sure what to serve this Christmas.  For the last several years my aunt has also come and since she is such a picky eater, we were very limited in what we could serve.  This year she moved several states away so we're only limited in what I feel like making :)

So, I need some ideas!!

Check out my brunch thread.

We usually have bagels, lox, salami.  I have made breakfast casseroles before that went over well.  Growing up, we always had biscuits and gravy.

Every Xmas morning for as long as i can remember, breakfast was steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy. When it was my grandfather doing the cooking for a passle of us, it was cube steaks. But now that it's just the 2 (3) of us, we do something like a rib eye or porterhouse (split 1 between us).

I vary what we make based mostly on anyone's requests or something fantastic I might find a recipe for and decide I have to make.

This year, dd asked for 'fancy' french toast.  I'm making it xmas flavored (with cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange zest)  and 'fancy' means 'with whipped cream' to dd, so that too.  Also going to make broiled fruit kebabs (with orange, pineapple, prunes, dried apricot, papaya - brushed in juice and maple syrup).

Last year someone posted a recipe for a breakfast casserole dish when I asked for ideas, and it was so good. Its a pie crust with hash browns, eggs, cheese, spinach, onions, and milk mixed together and baked. We make it all year, but i'm having it for xmas morning as well, paired with fruit and muffins.

I make cinnamon rolls.  It's the only time each year I make them, since they are super sweet.  They are SOOO good!  Warm, cinnamon-y, gooey, sweet yumminess.  I also cook up some eggs, which helps to offset the sugar somewhat.

I'm giving these a try since I needed ones that could be frozen.

I also really like these from Family Fun magazine but they didn't freeze all that well last year.

My mom is sleeping over this Christmas, but her/my brother aren't huge eaters so I'm torn.

A part of me thinks cinnamon rolls would be easy and less mess. I am going to be cooking a huge lunch/early dinner

Scones and faux clotted cream (faux because it's not available for purchase here).

For some reason none of us have an appetite Christmas morning.

I think I'll make these cinnamon rolls for breakfast. I'll probably make it on Christmas Eve and split the batch up- freezing half and putting the other half in the fridge. When we wake on Christmas morning I'll just pre-heat the oven and cook them while we're doing gifts. Not sure what else I'll make. I'll probably do more of a big brunch because I'm not cooking dinner (we'll be far too busy packing because we leave the day after Christmas).

Dh wants stuffed french toast with peaches and bacon on the side. I'm going to use some gingerbread spices to flavor the french toast.

we always had monkey bread as a kid... now that i have kids we are doing the same, but i am adding a egg casserole.  and then we just have a late dinner later.

I've made the recipe for cinnamon rolls that StephandOwen posted, and they are really yum!  A bit of work though (although I am sure all cinnamon rolls are like that).

For the last few years we have made this breakfast casserole: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Amish-Breakfast-Casserole/Detail.aspx  I always double the eggs, and just use regular cubed hashbrowns rather than the shredded.  It is awesome!  It is good reheated as well, so if you are worried about having left over it will hold up the next day as well.  This year it will be just the three of us Christmas morning (we will be going to the inlaws for dinner) so I will probably cut the recipe in half and put it in an 8x8 pan.

I'm making orange rolls, using the cinnamon roll recipe from America's Test Kitchen and making it more TF :)

Orange rolls are a tradition that my dh LOVES.  My mom will be making an early brunch at 9am so we'll try not to stuff ourselves

We do a small breakfast and I make a feast for Christmas day dinner, which I serve at 3pm or so.  This year is biscuits and gravy or homemade jam for breakfast.

I'm sure you have your menu by now.  Hope it all turns out well.  Happy holidays!

I either make special sweet rolls that we only have during the Christmas season or I make french toast. This year it's sweet rolls.

I keep searching for the right thing for us on Christmas morning.  I tried monkey bread and cinnamon rolls but we aren't into sweet breakfasts.  I'm going to be doing sausage gravy and biscuits tomorrow.  If the boys want something sweet they can put some raw honey or homemade rhubarb jam on their biscuits.
