Naturally Landscaped Experienced Birthers...

Did you prune prior to birthing? If so, did it help? Make no difference?

Just now I was in the shower and realized having long landscape (like 2-3 inches in places) may make it prone to being pulled more so than if it was shorter. I could be wrong though having never delivered before. Also, thinking about the 6 weeks after birth, it there was less to be messed with loquia that might be nice too. But again, that is speculation on my part. Just trying to decide if a little bit of pruning soon would be in order.

Anyway, just a fluff thread about something that was on my mind for a minute or two...thanks for any responses! smile.gif

I really didn't stress much about doing a full landscaping with my boys... a peri bottle is your best friend for keeping clean. never had a pulling issue

I, in general, feel more comfy with some trimming in the area.  So, DH just last week "landscaped" the area for me.  It was already starting to mat up and catch discharge and I was just getting annoyed by it.

I would say that if you normally like things trimmed, then you should go ahead.  But, if you normally are not and are ok with it during your periods, then I would say leave things be....

So many euphemisms!

I usually groom many parts of my body regardless of if I'm gestating or not.

I don't think hair plays a huge part if you prefer a more natural vulva. You'll clean yourself anyway and, if you take it easy, heavy bleeding is fairly short lived. I've birthed as a hairy me and as a reasonably hairless me and can't say I noticed either being preferable/easier/cleaner.

I usually trim while not pg, while pg, it is one thing that I do not care about. So it gets long, but honestly has never bothered me pp.

I don't do anything to my pubic hair and had no problems with birth or post-partum.

i had no idea what this thread was all about, lawn care or something, anyways i was curious and opened it...

but i didn't do anything to my pubic hair before or after birth and things were totally fine and clean and manageable for healing. i did have a small tear, so i was pretty careful with my crotch in general after birth. no plans to do anything different this time around.

What a funny question:)

After I could no longer see the darn thing (about 5 months) I stopped pruning. And then 6 weeks pp I went and got waxed.....you should've seen the esthetician's face when she saw it!! LoL

Yeah...not one problem during birth, though.

I shaved for my last birth. Kind of on accident. But either way, it gave a really good view for the pictures and made aftercare easier with no hair being pulled in pads. I did not tear but I would assume that it might make stitching easier if you are prone to tears.

Haha...I love this thread. I've been curious about this myself.

Pre-pregnancy, I religiously got Brazilians (yikes, I know). I haven't been waxed in the last...3? 4? months, so it's been quite an adjustment for me. I actually tried trimming a week or so ago and it was an ordeal. I'm not sure if enlisting my husband will work...but it sure would be funny.

Some trivia: I'm actually having my labor/birth filmed for a Japanese TV program. They obviously won't be showing any crotch shots on TV but they will give me the footage as a gift. I've been reconsidering my grooming needs.

Oh, I hadn't thought about pictures being better. That makes sense though! smile.gif I guess I won't worry about it either way though...if I decide to I will and if not I won't worry about it.

Sorry for any confusion about the topic. lol.gif With sensitive stuff like this I try not to use keywords that google would find interesting were someone searching for "recreational material". Heh. Even that's a euphemism! orngbiggrin.gifeyesroll.gif

AARGHHHHH!  My toes just curled at the thought of waxing my hoo-ha! I can't even tweeze my eyebrows!  heehee

I think I had it smooth for the last time around 32 weeks.  It was so hard not being able to see anything.  I'm now 10 days PP and haven't noticed it making anything harder than it should be.  I tried the whole peri bottle thing but I couldn't get the hang of it so I use witch hazel wet wipes (marked as for 'rhoids) and everything seems to be going fine.  It sure looks a lot bushier than it felt though!  I'm hoping to get it trimmed up again when my skid mark heals.

I am 100% au naturelle. I am however going to get someone (DH probably) to trim really short before birth. I am used to a heavy flow, but lochia for me was heavier than heaviest. AND I had a stitch (just one lol) and was really sore and had some kind of sore or ingrown hair (I was convinced it was MRSA, ah PP hormones!) So I would really like it to be as easy to clean as possible.

I feel like I may have thicker and coarser hair than the average woman. I don't have a lot to compare, but what I have seen, I am really hairy there ;) so YMMV

Mine grows super long when I am pregnant so I trim it shorter with scissors. I really don't like the feeling of gobs of pregnancy discharge stuck in it when it's long. After the baby's born, I am generally too tired to care.

I normally trim certain parts with scissors but it's getting hard to see over my belly already.  Has anyone had any luck with mustache trimmers or the like?

Where else can you ask these kinds of questions, lol!lol.gif

My husband has an adjustable beard trimmer and that works great.

I also normally use like a beard-trimmer style electric shaver - it gets a shave just as close as regular razor, but I don't tend to get skin irritation and those nasty red razor bumps as much, for some reason.

But I sometimes cut myself with it, so I am absolutely NOT willing to do "shaving by braille." With DS, I struggled with a mirror up until maybe 34W or so, then it was just so much hassle, I gave up. So I was totally au natrelle when I had him.

LOL, after he was born, I actually said, "WOW, I'M HAIRY!" Was the first time I'd seen that part of my body in a while & I can't ever remember seeing it with the hair totally untamed, so it took me by surprise.

In any case, no problems with 'pulling' or anything. Wasn't a problem or an issue PP so I wouldn't worry about it.

That's hilarious :). I too had to think about it for a minute to figure out it wasn't about some connection between gardening and successful natural childbirth lol.
