How soon do allergens show up in breastmilk? (x-posted in Allergies)

I've been avoiding dairy with my newborn (he's 3.5 weeks old) but "trialed" it today. I'm wondering how long it takes for the dairy protein to show up in my BM and affect him, if it's going to.

I think it can vary, depending on the mom/baby.  For us, it took ~ 3 hours with my 1 week old, and about 12 hours at 4 months old (same baby). At ~5-6 months he had outgrown his soy sensitivity, and by 6-7 months he could handle reasonable (ie: not ice cream, but some cheese on a casserole) amounts of dairy too :)

ETA: not sure why this didn't show up!  Hope it does now...

with my dairy sensitive baby, it would be anywhere from 2-6 hours that we would end up with massive spit-up. different reactions would have different timelines though.
